This lighthouse on Gasparilla Island is active, still providing navigational aid.
This is one of numerous photos taken during the summer of 1999, on a
trip from St. Petersburg Beach to Sanibel Island. It's a long drive,
but we found it pleasant. There is a lighthouse museum at the site, but be advised it was, at least at the time of our visit, not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. The drive out to the lighthouse from Port Charlotte is along a toll road. The charge was $3.20; there was also a $2.00 admission to Myakka River State Park. Speed limits are slow. Allow plenty of time to make the trip. Be advised to check on current tolls before making this trip.
