Welcome to the first stop on your tour of my past! The first person you will meet on this page is my mother; it is through her that I get all my Portuguese blood. This tour stop will acquaint you with my maternal line, back through my great-grandparents. Interestingly, all my maternal great-grandparents emigrated to the United States in the second decade of the 20th century. Further stops on the tour will take you back into their past -- back to my ancestors who never left Portugal.

It is common to find Portuguese women, at least through the end
of the 19th century, who were not given a last name at birth.

A quick word about navigation through the tour. You will find it easiest to follow the signs at the bottom of each page to visit the stops in turn. At any time, however, you may deviate from the organized tour route by clicking on the arrows on the right side of each page. Of course, only the arrows with page numbers listed actually take you anywhere! To see personal information on any person, simply click on that person's name. This will take you to that person's family page. From there, you can either continue to navigate from family page to family page by clicking on the various names you come across, or return to the family tree tour.

And that's it! Browse as long as you like; we never close. -JJS-
