~Remembrance~

Across the years I will walk with you

in deep green forests; on shores of sand;

and when our time on earth is through,

in heaven, too, you will have my hand.

                                                                (Robert Sexton)

Always equal,

my twin and I.

Equally pretty, equally shy.

We had the same face, personality too.

But now it's just me.

Not me and you.

It came round the corner and took you away.

No explanation, it had nothing to say.

You stayed in that hospital bed.

I did not leave your side.

My world was destroyed,

my twin sister had died.

An incomplete person, the identical half lacked,

will hate that car forever,

but forever won't bring you back.

What I would give to see your smile.

They said was the same as mine.

That sparkle glint that was in your eyes,

that are forever in my mind.

Sleep tight Ella.

I love you.

(written by Sarah in England - age 13 yrs old -

in memory of her identical twin sister who was killed by a speeding driver in September 2001)

As a star that is lost when the daylight is given,

he has faded away to shine brightly in heaven.

                   (I found this saying on an old tombstone (ca. 1870's) in a Texas cemetery.    ~Deanie~)

Daddy

Crowfoot, a Blackfoot warrior and orator said

“What is life?

It is the flash of a firefly in the night

It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime

It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset”.

Chief Seattle stated “There is no death, only a change of worlds”

This is Daddy’s sunset, this is his change of worlds.

In my dreams

In my memories

He’ll always be here

This man

This soul bound to me

When the temperature drops or the rumble of thunder

Awakens a deep sleep

I’ll hear his voice

“How cold is it there ?”   “ I heard a rain crow today”

When I finish a painting, I’ll still look for your check beside it the next day

Remembering when you couldn’t bear to part with my art, but wouldn’t deny me a sale

When I use your pliers

Or find myself sitting at a traffic light

Counting the cars as they pass by

You’ll be at my side.

When I make jerky I wonder if I am doing it right.

Despite your hand written formula – or then maybe it’s because

the formula is in your crazy left-handed writing.

When I look at Daniel

I see the qualities that you passed onto him.

Being his Papa and stepping in to also be his Dad.

When I read the US Navy Blue Jackets Manual yet again …

I’ll remember when you gave it to me as I started the 6th grade

and your words “Read this – you might learn something”.

And I did.

I learned about you.

I learned I could disagree with you – and I often did.

And I could be mad at you and that was ok too.

In your final days

I held your hand

You said “I Love You”.

Even when talking was already difficult

In your final hours

I knew that a man

Can truly be defined

By what he leaves behind.

If the path he has chosen to walk is one of honor and character and strength …

You will see the love that surrounds him at his sunset.

You are that man Daddy … surrounded by our Love.

I am rich.

Rich with your Love.

Rich with memories and filled with reminders

Of who you are

Of who I am now

Because of you.

I Love You Daddy

(This passage was written by my best friend Lindy.

She wrote this for her father's funeral in 2006 and somehow she was able to read it aloud at the funeral.

Daniel is her son and my god-son.  Her Daddy was one-of-a-kind "NAVY salty dog".

Lindy is who she is .............because of her Daddy.) ~Deanie~

God saw he was getting tired and a cures was not to be.

So HE wrapped his arms around him and whispered,  "Come with me!".

With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away

although we loved him dearly we could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating.  Hard working hands put to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to use he only takes the best!

Grief is the price we pay for LOVE.

I will not forget you little angel, precious child.

I think about you every day the love we shared your smile.

I think about the happy times and not about the sad.

And I treasure every memory of the special times we had.

I am leaning on God's promise someday we will be

together again in Heaven where the best is yet to be.

                                                    (This poem was written by J. Morse in memory of her little angel Alexis.

                                                     Alexis passed away from Leukemia at the age of 11 months).

If I had a flower for every time I think of you...

I would walk forever in my garden.

~~~
If teardrops were a stairway
and memories a lane,
I'd climb right up to heaven and
bring you back again.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with time of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
good friends, good times,
a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now:
He set me free.
It takes a minute to like someone
an hour to have a crush on someone
and a day to love someone,
but it takes a lifetime
to forget someone.
Life is not forever....Love is.
noted her father passed away around 1998.  This saying was etched on his tombstone.)
Memories start at the heart
and live in it forever.
                                       (Amanda Cox)
~~~

Near the door...he paused to stand,

As he took the class ring...off her hand.

All who were watching....did not speak...

As a silent tear...ran down his cheek.

And through his mind...the memories ran,

of the moments they walked hand in hand.

But now her eyes were so terrible cold,

for he would never again...have her to hold.

They watched in silence...as he bent near....

and whispered the words...

"I love you" in her ear.

He touched her face and started to cry

as he put on his ring and wanted to die.

And just then the wind began to blow...

as they lowered her casket...into the snow.

This is what happens...to man alive...

When friends let friends....drink and drive.

Remember me with smiles and laughter

for that is how I will remember you.

If you can only remember me with tears and sorrow,

don't remember me at all.

(originally comes from the TV show "Little House on the Prairie--also

these words were spoken at the funeral of Michael Landon)

That each sorrow has it's purpose

By the sorrowing oft unguessed,

But as sure as the sun brings mourning

Whatever is-is best.

The silence of the valley brings such peace to me.

I wish that you were here sharing this place with me.

I saw a pretty butterfly I wish you could see her too.

I watched as she fluttered by.

She reminded me so much of you.

Beautiful and graceful as can be as she was.

As she passed my way she seemed to stop for a moment,

as if she had something to say.

Then suddenly she was off again.

Now she is long gone from my view

but the memory of her is still with as

are all the memories of you.

I will miss you.

They say memories are golden.

Well, maybe that is true.

We never wanted memories,

we only wanted you.

A million times we've cried.

If love alone would have saved you,

you never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly.

In death we love you still.

In our hearts you hold a special place,

no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway,

and heartache make a lane,

we would walk the path to heaven

and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken

and nothing is the same.

But, as God calls us one by one,

the chain will link again.

memory of her grandma who passed away on March 18, 2003)

We hold you close within our hearts

and there you will remain,

to walk with us outside our lives

until we meet again.

in memory of her friend Sarah who was killed

in a bus wreck - - passage written on Sarah's tombstone)
