Dallas Co Arkansas
Letter from J. Stover
Between 1850-1860

Stover, J. Dallas Co. Arkansas, Mar 25_____

_____ ___ ___ ____ ____will hear that myself and family are able to be up and about but not enjoying very good health. Brother Elisha died on the 13th of December last. Also James P. Elliot on the 16th of November. The families are generally tolerably well. I have been up to (Allens) in Saline County and found them all well and doing as well as to be expected.

Times are hard here. Provisions is high. Corn is scarcer than usual in this country. Meat is also very scarce and tolerable lean. Other things according. I want to know whether you are all a going to remain in old Alabama or not. I think _____ some of you could do well in this country. I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter and let me know all about how you are getting on. Whether any of you inclined to move west or not. Wheat crops are generally all killed in this part of the country.

Respectfully,
Josiah Stover
