Home is located on a small 10-acre tract located between two small communities in NW Florida, Baker & Milligan. Pensacola is 50 miles to the west on I-10, Fort Walton Beach and the Gulf of Mexico are only 30 miles south along State Road 85, and Panama City is 120 miles to the Southeast.
This area has grown over 40,000+ in the past 10 years, and expects to double within the next 5 years (by 2010) My, how things have changed over the years!
Just because we're technically in Florida, doesn't mean that the weather is atypical of all of Florida! (click the link above to check out our current weather) February is typically the coldest month, with an average temp of 54.5 degrees. It is not uncommon to have a few slow flurries now and then... up to 3" accumulation has occurred within the past 5 years. YES, really!! Snow, right here in Florida!! August it's HOT... average of 80.5 (so the statisticians say).... although the heat index often reaches in excess of 100F.
The Baker community has grown so much . . . we've added the first full-fledged traffic light at the main intersection! (it used to just be a caution light) The horse-and-buggy days are no longer, although occasionally you'll see a mule-drawn wagon in the neighboring county, en route to town to buy supplies.
We are north of Eglin (Egg-Lin, NOT el-gin) Air Force Base, the largest base in the continental United States, comprising 724 square miles of land and range, and more than 97,963 square miles of water ranges. If you come to this area, you won't want to miss touring the Air Force Armament Muesum outside the main West Gate at Eglin -- just minutes from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, home of the world's most beautiful sugar-white beaches. (see photo below) The museum is unique in that it is the only facility in the country dedicated to depicting the history and evelopment of Air Force weaponry. On-display aircraft include the SR-71 Blackbird and B-52 Stratofortress, in addition to over 20 other Air Force Aircraft. And if you visit there, the price is right -- FREE admission!*S*
For those who enjoy saltwater fishing, the emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico await you. The Destin Fishing Museum houses the legacy and heritage of generations of Destin fisherman in its numerous displays. The museum features include the Dry Aquarium, Workshop Room, Memorabilia Room, Reference Library and Rodeo Fishing Room and Gift Shop.
The list of attractions in our area is endless... you'll just have to come visit and see for yourself*S* The door is always open to friends!
