IN ILL HEALTH MONTHS
-----
Thomas Lowdermilk, well-known throughout the town and country, a native of Burke and a good, law-abiding citizen of Morganton for manyyears, died at the State Hospital about 8 o'clock Thursday morning.
He had been in bad health for several years and confined to his bed for months. Four or five weeks ago his condition became such that it was thought advisable to remove him to the State Hospital.
Thomas Lowdermilk was born April 6, 1866, a member of a
substantial and well-known Burke county family. With the exception ofa few years in Gastonia he had spent the greater part of his adult life in Morganton, for the greater part of the time conducting a fishmarket here. He was truly one of the landmarks of the town, his fish store and weather prophecies setting him aside as an unusual character.
..."Tom," as everybody knew him, was a quiet gentle disposition, unassuming and popular with all who knew him.
He is survived by his second wife, who was Miss. Mary Garrison, and three sons, A. S. William, and Joe, one sister, Mrs. W. F. Hallyburton, and one brother, John Lowdermilk, of Dry Ponds.
Funeral services will be held at the home at two o'clock this
(Friday) afternoon, and interment will be made in Forest Hill
cemetery...
He married, first, Julie K. AMOS, 26 May 1889. Children:
i. A. S.[4] LOWDERMILK.
ii. William LOWDERMILK.
iii. Joe LOWDERMILK.
He married, second, Mary GARRISON.
