And The Beat Goes On...

(C)TV Hits magazine 2000

While Boyzone boys are off on tour again, we nabbed Shane and Mikey to sort out all the rumours once and for all...

What have you most enjoying about your latest tour?

Mikey: "Everything, really. It's ritual for us from the day we start rehearsing - the dancing, the singing, the challenge of making it good. it's really great".

Shane: "Touring's one of the most enjoyable thigns about being in the business. There's a crowd of us - the boys, crew, the dancers. We have a real laugh - Every night's a party!"

What's the most embarassing thing that's happend to you when you've been on tour?

Mikey: "There've been so many! one is when we did a quick change and i ran back on minus my mic! I couldn't go and get it, so i had to share keith's. I looked silly"!

Shane: "I've never fallen over on stage or ripped my trousers! I've probably done a few wrong dance steps, but i hope i managed to cover it all up!"

Shane, your sage costumes are always so different than the otehrs - who chooses them?

Shane: "We have a stylist, but yes i do look different from the others. They're all into their designer suits and looking smart - i'm not. I'll wear what i want to, and they'll wear what they want to. If they don't like it, tough. I don't care!"

You've said you 're not really into pop music any more - what do you reckon the fans think about this?

Shane: "I've never said i was into pop - i enjoy it as a job because im good at it. But personally i'm more into hipi hop and reggae. That's not to sayy that i don't have my haert and soul in what i do though - i love being in boyzone"

There've been so many rumours, so please tell us what's happening now with Boyzone?

Mikey: "We're taking a break for a while to pursue our own solo projects but we will join up as Boyzone now and then to do albums, tours, singles. If it goes well for us individually, then you'll actually end up seeing a lot more of all of us - which we hope is a good thing!"

What's your favorite moment of your career so far?

Shane: "It's all worthwhile when i see the albums go in at number one and winning awards. You put in the hours and your product sells - it's very satisfying!"

Mikey: "The MTV Awards in '98 were amazing. I was outside when two guys and loads of bodygaurds walked towards each other - it was Stevie Wonder and Muhammad Ali. They'd never met before and they hugged, right infront of me. Then, Stevie turned in my directon and Irish as ever, i nodded at him and said 'alright?'. of course he couldn't see me. I felt such and idiot but i don't think anyone noticed!"

What about the worst?

Mikey: "On a radshow when i was wearing a black outfit, but had a pair of white boxer shorts on underneath, i turned around and split my trousers up and back - you could see everything!"

Shane: "Personally, i think we've been very lucky. As a band, nothing's really gone wrong for us. Okay, we haven't had straight number ones, but our lowest ever has been number four, which isn't bad really, is it?!"

What's most surprised you about being in Boyzone?

Mikey: "Before Boyzone, i didn't know about the music business, i thought you partied every night, sang your songs, went to bed, got up and went to antoher party. but it's hard work. However big you are, you still have to work at it."

Shane: I think i've surprised myself most of all - i used to be very low key and very shy. I'm pleased about that, though i'm not sure the others are, ha ha!"

What are up to next year?

Mikey: "I'm going solo! My album's nearly three quarters finished and i'm really pleased with it. I hope to have the first single out in Spring. i'm also part of a management company! I'm really excited about a girl called Cara - Irish for 'friend' - who's somewhere between Britney and Sheryl Crow, and looks a bit like Louise Nurding! i hope she'll become a huge star!"

What changes do you predict for Boyzone?

Shane: "Hopefully, none. We're going strong as we are and i hope we all come back the same...
