This is an edited transcript of the interview that took place between Ronan and MTV Europe VJs; Eden and TREY (yes, TREY, formally of Channel [V] - he decided he actually wanted to finally make money) on MTV's interactive video request show, Select MTV. This interview was given on Wednesday, the 29th of July 1999, three days after his first solo single, When You Say Nothing At All, had been released in shops.
TREY: "This is out, from the Notting Hill soundtrack, and, um..it's good."
RONAN: "Thank you very much."
TREY: "There are about two versions - two singles coming out."
RONAN: "Yeah, there's two different versions - with different songs on each one. It's usually what we do to try and sell more singles basically! No, it's the first week - it's just come out and it's off the movie 'Notting Hill'. It's my first solo record - 'When You Say Nothing At All' so, you know, it's a big step, and it's nerve-rackin', but, no, it's good. Missed the lads a bit."
EDEN: "Yeah, exactly, how does it feel to like, do all these interviews and like, go around when it's only you?"
RONAN: "Yeah, it's weird. You know, it's.. The interviews and the press is fine because I did that anyway, you know, on me own. But it's when you get the promo- eh, performing the song, on TV shows and stuff that it really ges strange."
TREY: "Step in the studio, and looking left and right thinking where's the.."
RONAN: "Yeah, you're looking over your shoulder -'Why am I here on my own? Hang on - this isn't right!"
EDEN: "I can imagine.."
RONAN: "But it's good, it's good - it's a step we all have to take, ya know. We're still very much together - we've got the tour coming up for Christmas and, eh, the Boyzone movie coming out and also the fourth studio album on the cards.."
EDEN: "Hang on, you did a movie.."
TREY: "Boyzone movie -tell us about the film. We've heard about, like, Bono playing your manager.."
RONAN: "Yeah hopefully Bono..Bono said he's gonna be in it but we want him to be our manager, we don't know if he's gonna play it or not. Em, we're not going to be playing ourselves - we're getting five other guys to play us."
TREY: "Ah."
EDEN: "Ah, and you want Bono to play in it but you're not going to play in it."
RONAN: "Oh, we'll be in it in the beginning and the end but we won't be in the middle."
TREY: "But you're not going to like do cameos and stuff? Like, pop up and be the waiter and serve yourself?"
RONAN: "Yeah, yeah, possibly, possibly."
TREY: "So what would be the first scene? Have you any idea?"
RONAN: "Well, actually the first scene is going to open up, present day, like in Wembley or something like that, and its footage we've already filmed - that's basically the idea."
TREY: "Yeah."
RONAN: "..and, eh, it's kinda - it'll be in color. And then it'll basically be one of us going for the dressing room door handle and when you open it we end up..six years ago, in like, in Ireland doing a little nightclub kind of thing. And then it goes back and that's the whole movie then and it goes up to present day, then to the end."
EDEN: "So it's like the history of Boyzone."
RONAN: "Yeah. It's how we began and survived over the last six years."
TREY: "So have you seen the five guys who are going to play you?"
RONAN: "No, no.."
TREY: "Do you input, in choosing in.."
RONAN: "Something like..Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.."
EDEN: "Ha ha ha! That's a good one."
RONAN: "No, I don't know who's playing us."
EDEN: "Okay, fair enough."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TREY: "So we're just talking..you've done a solo single, you're in the band..you're talking about doing your TV presenting gigs as well.."
RONAN: "That's right..As you know Eden and I.."
EDEN: "Ha ha ha! No, no! Miss World flashes coming back to me!"
RONAN: "Ha ha!"
TREY: "What was the theme tune?"
RONAN: "It was that, em.."
EDEN: "Oh, uh.."
RONAN: "It was when that single was out - 'Would You Go To Bed With Me?'.."
EDEN: "Yeah - 'Would You Go To Bed With Me?'.."
RONAN: "It was that song.."
EDEN: "How do I look.."
RONAN and EDEN: "Do do do do.. (they crack up)"
RONAN: "I *hated* that song!"
EDEN: "Ha ha, I know!"
RONAN: "Anyway..but we had fun."
EDEN: "Yeah, we did. That was good."
TREY: "So you're a professional nappy changer as well - like five or six jobs and everything you've got - we're only doing one of them."
EDEN: "Yeah."
TREY: "How do you do it?"
RONAN: "Well, it's fun. It's all fun - I love what I do and that's what makes it easier, I guess. Like you guys - love what you're doing, you know?"
EDEN: "Yeah, we love it.."
RONAN: "It's so much easier. I love the music business and I love working and touring and promoting the single and travelling..so, it helps."
EDEN: "Where are the family? Do they come with you?"
RONAN: "Yeah, Yvonne and Jack travel with me, thank God, so that makes everything a lot easier."
EDEN: "Right."
RONAN: "I'd miss them terribly is they wouldn't come, you know?"
EDEN: "Yeah."
RONAN: "That's good."
EDEN: "I was quite proud of her - actually coming to the Seychelles with the little baby.."
RONAN: "Yeah, she did well there, didn't she?"
EDEN: "I was like, well done! Seven months..she comes..that was good."

Question from Shelly from Israel (she was the only fan who got to talk to RONAN):
Shelly: "I know you're managing Westlife. Um, are there plans in the future for Boyzone and Westlife to do a single together?"
RONAN: "Em, no I wouldn't say Boyzone and Westlife, no. Westlife have their own road that they pretty much have to follow. But, em, I think there might be myself and Westlife - a single down the road with the tw- the both of us. Ya never know."
Shelly: "Hey, that could be cool."
RONAN: "Yeah, ya never know."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TREY: "Last weekend you did the concert in Hyde Park."
RONAN: "That's right, yeah, the Wicked Women show..
TREY: "Tell us about that."
RONAN: "..Last Saturday, em, it was for a great cause - it was for cancer and I lost me mam to cancer so it was very important to me to get involved with charities like that. We've set up our own charity at home in Ireland - the Marie Keating Cancer Awareness Fund. But, em, it was just, it was great, you know, all the- seeing all these acts get together for the show. And myself - did a duet also on the stage - we opened the show. Then I closed it with a song I wrote for me mam as well. So it was a great day overall and for a great cause. So, I was very proud."
EDEN: "Was it pretty hard to do?"
RONAN: "Yeah it was, it can be difficult sometimes..when it's that close to you."
EDEN: "Yeah, ya get emotional.."
RONAN: "Hmm. Yeah, but it was good, it went down really well."
EDEN: "Yeah."
RONAN: "It went on TV that night as well, which was great."
EDEN: "Yeah. Are you going to release the single you [Ro and Emma] did together?"
RONAN: "Em, I don't think so - Emma's working on her solo album at the minute herself and she's working with the girls, ya know. And I'm working on *my* stuff. It'd be lovely to think we would do it but like, who knows?"
EDEN: "Yeah."
RONAN: "You never know what's around the corner in this business."
TREY: "We're going to play it actually, it's 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'."
RONAN: "That's right."
TREY: "And when you watch this, just think of Elton with.. a lot more hair and Kiki with..blonde hair..and maybe you'll get the picture of RONAN and Emma on stage. Possibly, sort of, kind of, in a horrible, horrible suit. maybe you should cut the video *like*.."
RONAN: "Yeah.."
TREY: "..If you ever do it."
RONAN: "That was pretty cool. Yeah."
TREY: "Well, that's it. Thanks.."
RONAN: "Cool!"
TREY: "..For coming by. Good luck!"
EDEN: "Aw, thank you very much for coming."
TREY (to EDEN): "You can put the book down (new BZ book she's holding)."
EDEN: "Sorry, I'm really interested! No, look, it's a Boyzone book, of course..it's lots of great pictures.."
TREY: "We've got the real thing here and you're looking at a.."
EDEN: "Yeah, but he doesn't take his shirt of like he does in that book.."
(RONAN bursts out laughing)
EDEN: "It's more interesting..what can I do."
RONAN: "Well, thank you very much."
EDEN: "Yeah, it's good to see you again."
RONAN: "You too, you too, thanks a lot."
EDEN: "We'll see you around. So what video are we going to see?"
TREY: "We're going to play Elton John and Kiki Dee."
RONAN: "'Don't Go Breaking Me Heart'."
EDEN: "Here it comes."
RONAN: "Good luck! Thanks a lot."
