#871. 4. ALLEN, OSGOOD, AYER. Nathaniel Colt (5) Allen is included among the children of Colonel William (4) Allen, who was born in Gloucester, June 30, 1717. He moved to New Gloucester, Me., after 17__ [?1766/68 not clear]. His wife, Mary (5) Osgood, married, April 11, 1745. She was born 1726, died 1806, at eighty. Her [Mary Osgood] father, John (4) Osgood, born June 28, 1683; died Nov. 23, 1765; moved to Concord, N. H.; married Sept. 16, 1708, Hannah (3) Abbott, born 1685; died 1774; daughter of George (2) Abbott, and Dorcas Graves, a daughter of Mark (2) Graves and wife Amy of Lynn. John (3) Osgood, born Sept. 3, 1654, died April 23, 1725, married, Oct. 17, 1681, Hannah Ayer of Haverhill, born 1662, died 1738, daughter of Peter (2) Ayer and Hannah (2) Allen. John (1) Ayer and wife Hannah Evered, William Allen of Salisbury. Hannah Allen, a daughter of Ann Goodale, married Peter Ayer, Nov. 1, 1659 in Haverhill. She was born June 17, 1642, and was eleven years older than her brother, Joseph Allen, one of the paternal ancestors of Colonel William Allen. John (2) Osgood died Aug. 21, 1693, born in England, wife Mary Clement, daughter of Robert Clement of Haverhill. She died Oct. 27, 1710. John (1) Osgood, born 1595, wife Sarah, helped found Andover, died Oct. 24, 1651. She died April 8, 1667. The Essex Antiguarian, Vol. iii., No. 2, gives the descendants of William Allen of Salisbury, a carpenter, who married Ann Goodale, who died there, 1678. He died 1686. His wife was a daughter of Richard of Salisbury and granddaughter of John Goodale, who died in England, 1625, his widow sailing from Yarmouth 1637, with her son Richard, and died in Newbury, 1647. Joseph (2) Allen, Aug. 13, 1653, died Oct. 6, 1724, a blacksmith of Gloucester, wife Rachel Griggs, July 29, _________ [? smeared], died 1684. Joseph (3), born June 2, 1681, a mariner and merchant, was the "squire" of the query; held land and slaves and married Mary Colt, January, 1707. He died April 6 [?not clear], 1750; she died Sept. 12, 1777. I have a note that she was his cousin, but no explanation found, and that Elizabeth, her sister, married her cousin, Thomas Allen, a brother to Joseph. I presume the allusion in the confused list of children, including Major General Nathaniel Colt, refers to a relative of the two maids. C. H.
