WILLIAM E. SUMMERS, farmer, was born in Morgan County, Ind., August 1, 1852,
and is the sixth in a family of nine children born to George G. and Diana
(Gilliland) Summers. Our subject received a very fair common school
education and was employed on his father's farm until he was twenty-one
years old. He then continued to farm the home place on shares for several
years. He now owns a part of the home farm, near Eminence, to which he has
added other land. He was married, February 17, 1878, to Miss Loda A.
Skelton, a native of Audrain County, Mo., and a daughter of Thomas and
Rachel (McCord) Skelton, natives of Indiana and of Scotch and English
descent respectively. To Mr. and Mrs. Summers have been born three
children, viz.: Nettie M., Charles G., and an infant not named. Mr.
Summers is a member of Eminence Lodge, No. 440, A. F. & A. M. In politics,
he is a Democrat.
