I stumbled upon your site and both my boyfriend and I are very impressed! We purchased our first malamute in early December 1999- her name is Kian and she is a beautiful red girl. We got her from a kennel/semi pet shop, which we weren't planning on but e saw her standing in her cage howling at the top of her lungs and we were suckered in! We aren't sure if she's purebred (we fear not) as her eyes are quite light- lighter than any malamute we've ever seen. Yet we love her and she's a great companion! She is proving to be a bit of a handful to train however. She's so intelligent and she knows exactly what I'm asking of her, but she is determined to do her own thing! We're persevering though and she's slowly coming around. Kian is very friendly towards anyone we come across when we're walking or just standing about in the street, and she's incredibly friendly towards other dogs. We were surprised with this as we suspected that malamutes weren't particularly friendly toward strangers or strange dogs- yet Kian loves to socialise with anything! We have a part golden retriever Alaskan Malamute from a neighbor that had a pure bred malamute. The dog spent most of it's life with us. When they divorced, we tried to take it, but it could not get along with its son (the "1/2") so we found it a home. I hope to have a pure bred someday.

I have joint custody of a beautifullly-masked, red male malamute named Sitka! Our Alaskan Malamute, Dakota, is the best dog on the planet. He is a picture perfect dog who has won many dog shows. He immigrated to Texas from Northern California. He's a great sport about the heat. Dakota comes from a very rich blood line. He has een bred only once and had six puppies. Of those, four are champions, as is he. Thanks for a very informative site. My dog wandered onto my property and was, eventually, a gift from the owner who could no longer keep him. Thanks for the pointer to your page. Great help. Now that I see the pics, I think the HUGE Mal we used to know in VA was Sable, not red/white, but I'm no expert!!! We're waiting on getting our house before getting our Mal so in the mean time I'm learning verything I can about them!!!
In between deciding on a pup or a rescue...leaning towards a rescue....but we'll see. Keep up the good work on your page!!!!

Jeff, My first dog was a rescue bitch and she's the one responsible for geting me into this wonderful breed. She was a private rescue and her first litter produced a lovely red, plus a wolfgrey and a sable pup (photos to be up soon!) I was so intrigued by the color that I strive to this day to produce excellent red colored pups! - SUSAN
