William Marion Potter was born on 15 Feb 1870 in Letcher Co., KY. Served as sheriff of Letcher Co., KY for 4 years. Moved from Letcher Co., KY to Wise, VA in September of 1907. Later moved from Wise, VA to Afton, TN. In 1909 he moved to Akron, CO and took up homesteading. There he began building a community and owned a store. His wife, Sarah, was the first postmistress in Akron. He was sheriff of Washington Co., CO for 4 years and was a Republican candidate for Judge of Washington Co.
