Joseph Johnson, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come - Greeting: Know Ye, that in conformity with a survey made on the 26th day of June one thousand eight hundred and 52 by virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrant No. 2624 there is granted by the said Commonwealth, unto Richard Potter a certain tract or parcel of land containing 14 acres lying in Russell County on the waters of Russell's fork of Sandy River near the lower gap and bounded as follows, viz. Beginning at a gum near a house S. 40° E. 40 poles to 2 spruce pines near the top of a cliff S. 85° E. 30 poles to a black oak and hickory by a path N. 26° E 20 poles to a black oak N. 10° W 41 poles to a white oak sugar tree, and dogwood near the head of a hollow S. 66° W. 20 poles to a white oak N. 78° W. 11 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurtenances, to the said Richard Potter and his heirs forever. In Witness Whereof, the said Joseph Johnson, Esquire, governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the 1st day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and 53 and of the Commonwealth the 77th Jos.
