Married Life

Our new home

Since getting married, we've had a lot of triumphs. One recent one is that we just purchased our first home. Not bad for two 24-year-olds, eh? 4 bedroom, 2 bath...I love it.

We knew we wanted to buy a home as soon as we could, but soon as we could was more sooner that later.

We work hard at our marriage. What couple doesn't? We have to do a check every once in a while to keep things on track.

I believe the one thing that keeps our marriage strong is this: our marriage is centered in Christ. Joel and I are both Christians, which means that we are equally yoked, as the Bible says. Our shared faith in Christ keeps our marriage focused.

Believe it or not, marriage is not always a bed of roses. There are times when I just want to strangle my husband (of course, don't tell him I said that!). But I love him, more than I love myself. So, we work through it.

Resources

We use a couple of books (besides the Bible) to help keep our marriage on track. One of them is a daily devotional for couples called "Moments Together For Couples" by Dennis and Barbara Rainey, published by Regal Books. Each day there is a story, verse, and discussion questions. You can take from 5 minutes to 5 hours to do them, depending on what you get out of each one and the time you have to discuss. We really enjoy doing them, and they keep our marriage focused on Christ.

The other book is called "The Way of Agape" by Nancy Missler, published by Koinonia House. This book tells how Nancy turned her marriage around by learning to love her husband with agape (self-less) love. This book is fabulous and I highly recommend it. Koinonia House has a web site at http://www.khouse.org.

Also, Christian Marriage & Family Homepage is a great site for those looking to strength both their marriage, and their relationship to Christ.
