It is very refreshing to read the way you feel about your children. My father and mother had myself and my sister, then divorced and my father had two more daughters with his new wife - they are also divorced now. Reading all that you wrote makes me hope hat my Dad isn't tearing himself up too much over all of us - I am 22, my sister is 20, then we have a 15 year old and 12 year old. My dad missed a lot of stuff with us while we were growing up, but the little things dont seem to matter as much if you tel your kids that you love them, and maybe just call them up to talk for a minute once a week or something... Anyway, Happy Fathers Day to you... :)

I cried when I read your stories. I also am divorced with three children that I raised. It was good to hear from a father's perspective just how they feel. However, my ex never paid any child support and didn't want to be there for our children's first . I am still unmarried after 11 years because I never met anyone who was willing to accept me and my packages. I am now in a relationship with a man whom I will probably marry. My children are grown, but it would have been nice to have an ex who remain d involved in the children's lifes. They don't know what it is like to have a daddy. Father's Day is sad for them, and I know I cannot make it up to them. Like you said, I tried to be both Mommy and Daddy to them by buying more than I should have. Try ng to make up for his absence. Your web page has brightened my day. I now know real love with this man I'm involved with. I wish I had known it back then. I know my life would have turned out differently if I had a normal family life for my children. Thank you so much. Carolyn

When I read your story about being a dad you brought tears to my eyes. I am 32 yrs. old and my parents divorced when I was 10. My relationship with my dad is not the best as I still feel the pain of the divorce. I love him and I wish he felt like you. He says he loves me but I don't see actions that show that love. I was just looking for a fathers day poem for the father of my children,and happened to come across this beautiful letter you had written about being a "dad" and not a "father".I thought it was excellent.I am a single mother who has 2 great children,and t ey have a "dad",and a "father".But the sad thing is thier dad is my boyfriend of 5 and a half years(which is pretty much all of my kids life)Thier "father" choose not to be in thier life after we seperated,up untill a year or so ago.Now he is trying to do the things you talked about..shower them with gifts once every 3 to 4 months,he calls every once in a while,but is never there for thoes special moments..school plays,sports,loosing a tooth,seeing them descover new things,being there to tell them they wil be o.k.all the things, that make the real difference!I think I try too hard to keep him involved,only to have the kids dissopointed.I think your letter was soo real...I just wish there was some way to send it to all the absent "fathers" around the world. .it might make the difference.Thank you for sharing your thoughts.. I was touched by your words. I was raised by my Step-Father who I loved so much and had the honor of spending 45 years with. I lost him almost 2 years ago and I still miss him so much. He was my "Dad" and my best friend. "Dads" are one of the most imp rtant people in the whole world. My father had to love me, but my "Dad" chose to. Stay close to your biological children also. There is no reason you can't share the Prom and other things. I was divorced and still invited my x-husband and his wife over to share special occasions with our girls and that is how it should be. Divorce should not mean losing a parent, but gaining another whole set of parents, and in today's world, we need all the love and support that parents can give. A child can never get too many parents or Grandparents ! Marsha
