Terry's 3M's: Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

Terry's 3M's

Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

October 14, 1997--Tuesday evening around 9

What a day! I'm tired and it seems as though I've accomplished nothing.

As I keep yelling up at the kids to quit giggling in bed and go to sleep, I will be rambling on about various things.

For instance, I just realized that Sunday was Columbus Day. Or at least it was when I was a kid. My calendar said that Columbus Day was observed on the 13th this year. Where?

The kids didn't have a day off from school. There was no mention of it in their classrooms. Why? Did that dissident group make their mark and eliminate the day from American consciousness?

And while I'm muttering about that, I may as well bring up the fact that in the schools, Christmas vacation is no longer Christmas vacation and Easter vacation is no longer called that as well. They are now winter and spring breaks. God forbid that anyone call anything by a name that isn't politically correct!

Well, to those of you who insist on such political correctness: :Þ There! (I know it's childish--but it makes me feel better *g*)

But, along with all the changes to be politically correct and not to offend people, have we gone overboard in the wrong direction? What I am talking about is a situation that has cropped on the internet in the past few days. Or at least, attention has been called to it.

There are probably several of you out there who have received the e-mails from groups who are appalled that a boylovers webring could exist. I am appalled as well. Am I going to do anything about it? Well, first, I'll go back to my mail and find the addresses of these places and see what's what.

If there is nothing more than words on the pages, well, that's freedom of speech in action. No matter how much we abhor such things, the same freedom that is allowed to us, is allowed to them. That is unless those words are confessions of illegal activities. Would I like to shut them down? You bet!

I am officially going to sign up at a virtual university tomorrow for the course in internet law. I tried to get into the chat room tonight, but, there wasn't anyone there. I hope to get the answers to some of the questions I have about this sort of activity on the internet.

Well, I gotta go. Faye's standing over me. :) She wants to get on and is giggling because I'm typing this.

Remind me to tell you about how she steals my HTML all the time.

Ciao!
