Terry's 3M's: Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

Terry's 3M's

Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

October 23, 1997

Yesterday, I spent an absolutely horrid morning on this computer and online.

I have been searching for more webspace as this journal expands. And I thought I had found the perfect place. Five megs of space would certainly give me room to grow. So, I signed on. Only to find out that I would have to get an outside ftp program to upload my files onto their server.

I downloaded the program. I have this zip program that is freeware. I unzipped the program--or at least I thought I did. I couldn't get the install to install. It kept asking me what directory and I kept telling it what directory. Over and over. Finally, I figured out that I can't just unzip; I also have to extract! So, I did. I extracted the files and then installed the program.

Then the fun begins. As far as I know, there is no file manager at this site, so everything has to done off line and uploaded using the ftp program.

I thought I'd begin with the October 1-13 archive. I saved the page as a text file and then took off the links to the other pages here and got ready to up load the file. I realized afterwards that even though I knew that I would have to upload the files for the background and the credit logo, I forgot to write down the name of those files and after uploading the background and credit logo and I uploaded the wrong files. Delete, delete, delete.

Then I went back and wrote down what graphics to upload. Then I started all over again. When I got everything uploaded just as the instructions on the help page told me, it still didn't work. My background came up and nothing else!

I'm going to give it a rest for a few days. Or maybe until next week. Gee, ain't html fun????
