Terry's 3M's
So here is a collection of facts about me. -I love lists. I sometimes make up long lists of every little thing I need to do [put x book on the nightstand, take the scissors downstairs, wash the 1st load of clothes, etc.] just so that I have more items to cross off the list. There was a time when I even got together all the books I was reading and made lists of chapters in each book and crossed off the chapter number after reading it. -I started drinking Diet Pepsi when I was 16. It is still my soft drink of choice. Regular sodas are now way too sweet for me. -I hate it when the kids lie to me. Some misdeeds would only cause a scolding--but if the child has lied about it--there will be a punishment in addition to the scolding. -I am beginning to enjoy the X-Files almost as much as I enjoy Trek. -I love thunderstorms. -I had abscesses in both my ears when I was 17. Ever since they popped in the wee hours of that February morning, my ears have been very sensitive to noise. The boys are talking in low tones upstairs and down the hall into my bedroom-- but I can still hear almost every word they're saying. -My favorite candy is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. One birthday, Faye bought my birthday cake--chocolate cake with chocolate icing decorated with peanut butter cups. That was absolutely my favorite of all birthday cakes. -I drink lots of coffee. Since Suisse Mocha is so expensive, I mix my own creamer with the store brand non-fat coffee creamer and cocoa. Then I add that to my coffee with artificial sweetener. -I enjoy vegetables that a lot of people hate: brussels sprouts, rutabaga, turnips, beets, etc. But I hate lima beans and garbanzo beans. -I have a mole between two toes. The first time my mother saw it when I was a baby, she thought it was dirt and tried and tried to scrub it off. -I love to cross-stitch but can't anymore because my eyes have gotten too bad to see what I'm doing. And when I tried to use the over the neck magnifying glass, I still made far too many mistakes. -It took me about two and a half months to read the Bible from cover to cover. -When I was in college, I took ballet lessons for the first time. -I love the symphony and most classical music...but the only opera I ever enjoyed was Jesus Christ Superstar. -I hate bagpipes. -My favorite Looney Tunes character is Foghorn Leghorn. -I fantasize about starting a new life (taking the people I love most with me) on a new planet that is like a pristine earth. A world without hate. And a lifespan of thousands of years. -I wish that I had musical talent. -It's hard to view this site without knowing that I love to read. -I'm not proud of it, but, I do swear. However, even though I may use foul language, you won't hear me using the Lord's name or damning anyone. And I don't swear every day. I have to be really, really angry to use that language. -In college, I swore constantly. A boyfriend broke me of that habit by calling me "potty mouth" every time I used a foul word. -When Trivia Pursuit was popular, I had a hard time finding anyone who would play with me because I never lost a game. (I would have lost every game if it were the Sports Edition!) -My occupations have been: babysitter, Girl Friday, department store clerk, office aide, filing clerk, accounts payable clerk, invoice clerk, payroll clerk, mailing clerk, office temp, title clerk in an auto dealership (and I don't even drive!), bartender, hotel/motel maid, and COO of a company that was going down for the third time (and didn't have the resources necessary to bring it back). -I spent a year as one of the homeless in Hollywood. I learned a lot of survival skills. -I was embarrassed one morning because I thought everyone had left the house and I was singing at the top of my lungs: High Hopes and Sing C'est la Vie. -I sang karaoke in public--once. The song was Gene Pitney's Only Love Can Break a Heart. -We had our friend's karaoke equipment here one New Year's Eve. I sang a duet with a friend who is a former lounge singer. We sang Gene Pitney's Town Without Pity. -I enjoy role playing video games. I don't like the action games...probably because I'm uncoordinated and always get killed very early in the game. -I'd like to be a vegetarian--but, I love seafood too much to give it up. -At my sixth grade graduation, we sang two songs: She Loves You and Over the Rainbow. -My cousin (who was my guardian at the time) made me quit the church choir because I got caught skipping rehersal to play a friend's house. Delton made Bryan quit the school choir last year for the same reason. -I stole a strawberry from a store when I was about 6. It hurt my conscience so badly that I confessed it to the priest when I made my first confession 2 years later. -My sister sometimes buys cans without labels at a discount. Today we are having surprise cans for lunch. We've opened up creamed corn, pink beans, peas, beets, pineapple and peaches. -When I feel like cooking, I am quite a good cook. In fact, it has been suggested that I open a restaurant. Trouble is, I don't like to cook all the time. (The skill at cooking is a combination of loving to read cookbooks and inheritance--my father is a chef.) -Sometimes I still like to stay up all night reading in bed. -I love to cuddle under an electric blanket in the middle of winter. -I miss snow. I get very homesick for upper New York State around Christmas. -My favorite flower used to be lilies of the valley. They are now my third favorite. The blue iris is first, followed by lilacs. Roses are fourth on the list. -I love cool windy days. -L'Air du Temps is my favorite fragrance. I also love the scent of jasmine. I still love the fragrances that I wore all winter long: Emeraude and Channel No. 5. -I love 60's music. -I like to sing silly songs to the kids: Love Potion #9, On Top of Spaghetti, Purple People Eater. -I sometimes let the kids off of a punishment early explaining that I am showing mercy as a lesson in the Lord's mercy. -I can say thank you in French, Portuguese, Farsi (the same word for all three), English, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Russian. -I hate housework. -I drove to the DMV to take the driving test in a car that my parents had for a 7 day trial period. Because my mother's insurance didn't specifically cover this car, I wasn't allowed to take the test in it. I've never gone back to take the test, so, I don't have a license. But, there is a big difference between I don't drive and I can't drive. -I wore make-up when I worked in offices and occasionally on dates. I don't wear make-up at all anymore. (Well, I would wear lipstick once in a while if the kids didn't always get into it.) -I have extremely wide feet (family trait) and because of that most shoes HURT. So, I only wear shoes when I have to. And if I can get away with thongs that's what I'll wear. (Except that mine broke 5 days ago...boo hoo!) -I am in awe of my son's artistic talent. He is a better artist at age 8 than I will be...ever. I tried to scan a picture of his artwork here, but, the computer is misbehaving and telling me that there is not enough memory to do it's work. His work is colorful and flamboyant. He draws ovals and rectangles and other shapes in freehand better than most adults I know. And I intend to encourage him every chance I get.
-I had intended on putting a hundred facts here. But, this is about half of
that and seems to be more than enough!
