Terry's 3M's
Okay, let's see if I can get this written and up before Faye wakes up and takes over the computer. Since I have access to the computer almost all day on the days that she works, she feels that she's entitled to be on when she's home from work. I'd feel the same. Yesterday was a lovely day. I finally got to meet, in person, someone that I met via the internet last year. There are always both jokes and warnings about meeting people over through this medium. I suppose that some caution should be shown on certain occasions, but, in my experience and my sister's experiences, we have found that the people that we have met over IRC and from web pages which led to e-mail friendships, have been fairly represented. In this case, I followed a link to her website. I found out that she lived here in Las Vegas and e-mailed a letter to her. After a few e-mails, we exchanged telephone numbers and have kept in touch by both mediums since then. I don't have transportation and she's been busy, so, it took a while to finally meet. We had a lovely visit with plans to continue this friendship. Yet, if the internet didn't exist, we would never have met. Las Vegas is a BIG city. Both in population and area. Although she lives in a neighborhood that I used to live in, we still wouldn't have met. I think that she moved into the neighborhood after I had moved out. Although it is possible to make up all kinds of things about yourself and while it would not be difficult to have an online personna quite different from yourself, I don't think that that is what most people do. Because with all the search engines, web rings, and IRC chat rooms out there, one can always find another with similar interests. So there is actually no real need to lie about anything. Besides, it is always possible that one of your online friends or aquaintences may want to meet you. And it's much easier if you've just been yourself all along. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
