What's Been Going On

I have found out that I have been having more trouble concentrating enough to make an entry when the kids are around. And since school is out and they've been around a lot--sometimes with their friends over here as well,--I've had trouble finding time to write. Especially since I've been too tired after the last kid has gone to bed [usually around 10 PM] to come down and sit down at the computer. I've also been getting up later as my normal bedtime was getting to be between 1 and 3 AM. But, I woke up early this morning and sat down here at around 6:15.

Summer has come. After several weeks of unusually cooler weather for Las Vegas, summer is here. The temperatures seem to be a little lower than normal, but, it is still hibernation weather for me with temps in the low 100's. With Carrie's tendency towards nosebleeds in hot, dry weather, it is hibernation season for her as well.

My sister, Frances, is getting married Friday.

There is speculation as to why the sudden marriage. They were planning a big, formal wedding next May. Now, the wedding has been moved up to a small wedding at a Mormon church tomorrow instead of the outdoor ceremony planned for next May. They plan on holding the reception for the wedding on their first anniversary.

My thoughts on this are relatively simple.

Tony was in a car accident in February. He has had major problems with his shoulder ever since. About a month ago, he had surgery on his rotary cuff. There were complications.

Tony has melanoma (skin cancer--not uncommon in this area because of the intense summers). He has been on medication for this which has caused a thickening of his blood.

Unfortunately, after his operation, he developed phlebitis. These are blood clots. He has been hospitalized on and off for this. The last time he was hospitalized was the phlebitis moved to his lungs a week or two ago.

He is now on blood thinners and will probably have to be on them forever.

My sister has had her share of health problems as well. Tony's illness has delayed her trip to UCLA for diagnostic tests to find out why her stomach isn't emptying properly and some related complications from this.

My thoughts on this are simple. The doctors are reluctant to share medical information with anyone who is not immediate family. Significant others are not immediate family. Husband and wife are. In order to have the authority to gain access to all the medical information and to share in the information and decisions on treatments, they need to be married.

About the time that the question for the June Diary Collaboration came out, Faye, Delton, and Alan went to a workshop where goal-setting was the topic. They were asked to cut out pictures of their dream car, things that they would like to have, things that symbolized the future they would like to live in, and put them in a plastic sleeve for paper so that they would be handy to look at and a reminder of what they are working towards.

I thought that the goal-setting workshop and the Diary Collab question were akin as both dealt with what one would want if there was great wealth to obtain these things.

I thought, "Gee, I know that 3" notebook [from our now defunct business] is around here someplace."

So, I found the notebook and took out the product sheets that were in the sheet protectors. Then I proceeded to make my own "wishbook".

I haven't finished it yet. And it turned up missing last night. I suspect my son of taking it. You see, I know that Johnny would love to collect snowglobes of all shapes and sizes. He doesn't dare yet because he knows that his cousins would "accidently" end up breaking them. But, in the book I had pictures of at least a dozen Disney snowglobes. John has been drooling over the pictures ever since he saw them.

John is all excited. We went to the park so that he could visit with his dad last week. His dad didn't get him anything for his birthday because he didn't know exactly what John was talking about when he talked about the Power Rangers toy that he wanted. So, he promised to send John $40 as a birthday present and the money should be here tomorrow or Saturday. And now John has been drooling over catalogs saying, "I could buy this...or I could buy that." The Power Ranger toy is forgotten with the prospect of money to spend for other things.

I've started to reread Stephen King's The Dark Half. I reread Jurassic Park and have started to read Lost World.

And I've been watching X-Files and playing a video game that Frances lent me.

Three of the puppies have been sold. But, five puppies are just as messy and almost as noisy. I hate leaving the door to the puppy closet closed all night, but, since they've learned to climb over the boards that are supposed to confine them, it's necessary...or else we'd have puppies and puppy poop everywhere.

I'd better get busy if I want this uploaded. Faye has today and tomorrow off and will be working 8 days in a row next week. She traded days with someone so that she'll be able to go to the wedding tomorrow. I suspect that she will spend a great deal of time today on the computer.

I could have spent time on the computer yesterday, but, I chose not to. After clearing out my e-mail the other day, I thought that I'd take a day or two off from the computer. Of course, my e-mail has piled up again....but, not nearly as bad as the last time.

I did think that I would have plenty of time on the computer today. Then I found out about Faye's switched days at about 11 last night....
