When sewing lots of straight shot items (like curtains) measure the correct seam distance from the needle and apply a piece of masking tape parallel to your seam. You can zip out all those seams in a jiffy!

If you love to sew, are often plagued with arthritis pain, and have a hard time buttoning/unbuttoning your outfits...try using velcro snap fastners, zippers, or frogs in place of those hard-to-fasten buttons. These are all easy to add/substitute in your patterns and are suitable for small children, too!

Try using cuticle scissors (found along-side manicure equipment in Beauty Supply stores) for clipping those threads and doing heirloom pulled/drawn thread work. The scissors are inexpensive and are quite small and sharp. Works great for embroidery and cross-stitch, too!

If there are any clothing manufacturers in your area...sometimes they will sell the endbolt fabric cheaply. It does not pay for them to have their employees move, cut or handle a small bolt of fabric so, sometimes they just want to get rid of it. It pays to call and ask at least. They may require you to buy the yardage in a minimum of 5 yards or so and quite often, if the fabric is a season or two old, it is quite inexpensive, too.
