may have to write to the committee for that marae to obtain photos seeing as though it is
situated in a rural area.

Any info would be cool,

I'm trying to find out any information I can about an ancestor of mine listed as number
1091 in the Blue Book. Her name is Ann Lidiard and Makee is in brackets. Her mum was Ann
Kearaki, possibly from Akaroa, who married a whaler (John Lidiard) in 1844 in Bluff. Ann
Kearaki's remains were accidently uncovered when Tiwai Smelter was being built. It was
said to be an unusual find, as she was clutching an adze in her left hand, possibly
indicating a person of high rank. Her husband, John Clark Lidiard, came to NZ on a whaling
ship in 1824, leaving the ship with several others because of poor treatment. They came
ashore somewhere in the Bay of Plenty where they were attacked and only my ancestor
survived as the chief's daughter concealed him with a cloak. It is believed that he stayed
with this tribe for 7 years before joining another whaling ship and heading to Akaroa. If
any of this information rings a bell, please contact me, as I would love to know more about
thier fascinating lives.

Thank you for your reply. I am researching my whakapapa and am looking for all whanau
information, history etc. My grandfather is John Joseph Edwards. His parents are Ani
Tamati(Annie Thomas) and Hohepa Rangimakere (Taupoki Edwards/Eruera. Hohepa's parents are
Eruera Rangimakere and Kehaia. I especially want dates but all information is welcome. I
am also keen to trace todays relatives/descendants.

We need to look at our linkage as I am descended from Pukukahu through Aramainana down to
my mother who is Janie Kenny. I have a slightly different line, but we were aware of the
Rangimakere whanau, though we never knew who they were.

I am interested in your line as it is going to clear up a grey area in our whakapapa, and
confirm either way.

We had a Kenny reunion last year in Picton and your line was recognised as coming from the
same tree, and that we should track you down and introduce ourselves. I live in Porirua

Regards

Yes it certainly looks like we have the same linkage and descendancy. Could we perhaps make
a time to meet with each other. I live in Kingston Wellington. Until now I was unaware of
any relatives and thought that it was near impossible to learn much other than thru the
Ngai Tahu trust. Since posting on here I have made contact with one other person who you
may have made contact with and I have also been told of another person who also lives in
Porirua. It would be so good if we could all get together some time
cheers

What a surprise this is to see Koukourarata people on the website! Thought you guys might
be interested to know that the Ngai Tahu whakapapa unit (through Uncle Terry Ryan) could
have some of this information you are looking for. Even though it is Ngai Tahu Uncle Terry
may have other info on file. I am from the Tikao/Grennell families from Koukourarata but
have known Aunty Hineari Daken all my life and she shares the same whakapapa as you both
and still lives there. You might want to contact Wade Wereta-Osborne at
wade.wereta-osborne@ngaitahu.iwi.nz

Thank you for your response. I tried to contact Wade Wereta-Osborne but the email bounced
back. Are you connected to this line yourself?

Diana, Your correct so far FYI.. Taupaki Cassidy's father was Thomas Cassidy who married
Maraea Kuri Te Wao Paehangi. As for Arihai (not sure) I do have a Arama and a Thomas as
siblings of Taupaki. You could be confused with Arihai Whittingham (descendant of Mere Jane
Cassidy) who married Mita Hohepa.

Aloha mai:
My great-great-great-grandmother was Susan Hu Parker. Hu maybe short for "Huata." She
immigrated to Hawai'i in the 1800's. She may have been Mormon, because her name was listed
in the Utah, USA files. If this name seems familiar, please contact me. We are interested
in researching our Maori roots.

Family History:
Susan Hu Parker married into a native Hawaiian family. Her grand-daughter was of the Kauwe
family, Hawai'i island. She (Kauwe) is my great-grandmother.

Because of our history (Cook; Immigration from Asia for the Sugar Plantations; Annexation
to the U.S.) Hawaiians today are of mixed ancestry, but We consider ourselves "Hawaiian."
I am of native Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, English and Maori ancestry.

*(SIDEBAR) Persons born in Hawai'i but not of native Hawaiian ancestry are called Kama'aina
(children of the land) or "Local." Native Hawaiians are also called Kama'aina, or O'iwi,
Maoli or Kanaka.

Please contact me if you have any leads on Susan Hu Parker. You can reach me at
tristan@hawaii.edu
