Trying to find out about ancestors

I was told way back in our family two cousins fell in love
Erihe Tarmatai ( not sure how to spell?) and the family was not happy and would not except
this, so Erihe banished his family and took on Erihe as his surname.
I really want to find out where I originated from, I havr tried alot of looking around and
have had no luck. I really want to have my tribal tattoo done however I do not know what
it looks like.
My fathers name was
Danny Dennis Erihe but past away when he was around 30 something if this helps.
Any information would be greatly appreciated as you are just about my last hope.
Kind Regards
Clint.

There was a tipuna by the name of
Aperahama Kaipipi who came from
Omahu in Hawkes Bay.
Our family descent from him and he was around during the time of

Ngati Hinemanu or

Kia ora,
I am trying to find info on my great great grandmother
Arahia Toetoe. She was married to
Heemi Riwhi and they were from
Pupuke in the
1880's.
On my great-grandmothers
(Puti Riwhi) marriage certificate it says Arahia's maiden name is
Rewharewha. Although on Heemi's death certificate it says
Toetoe...
In a whakapapa I have it suggests that Toetoe and Rewharewha were siblings. And that Arahia's
first name is actually
Ngatoka. She is my missing link. I'd greatly appreciate any info at all.
Kind regards,

Kia ora,
This is all very new to me but have been interested in tracing my late mums whakapapa as I don't
know very much.
My mums name was
Topsy (Tapuhi) Josephine Witehira born
14 April 1938 in
Kerikeri I think.
Her mothers name was
Mina Witehira (nee Poara). My grandmother married
Taumutu Witehira don't know when in Kaikohe I think but
my mums dads name was
Tiata Witehira from Kaikohe.
My mum married my dad
Anthony (Tony) Wi from Te Kao.
I would love to hear from decendants from the above named and learn about my grand-parents and
be lovely 2 put a face to these people.
I know that my grandmother is buried at
Matauri Bay (Far North) and Taumutu is buried in
Kaikohe somewhere once again unsure, and also unsure about Tiata.
I understand that someone from Kaikohe got in touch with my mother before her passing in 1995.
Please help......
Thank you

person you call
Puahaere is actually

I was very sure of this, but you have thrown me off track a bit, but i doubt my grandfather

Hi Tineka,
Just got a fax back from my Mother in law & she's written.
Poihere with out the A was one of Tawhiao's wives, which he took in his later years. I think
he was nearing seventy, There is quite an account of her in his book called Tawhiao. She used
to hit & poke out her tongue at him, She would flaunt her younger men & even ran away with one.
Tawhiao sent a fleet of canoes up river & they were caught & brought back.
The book "Tawhiao" or "The Maori King" has quite a bit about her, She was a favorite of his &
he allowed her more liberties than his other wives. Mostly I think because he was an old man.
I have a picture of her with Tawhiao, but can't vouch it's right because I have seen the same
photo & the caption has said the woman was Hera his princepal wife, So who knows But he did
have a wife, But she was Poihere.
Hope that was of some help Tineka, Good Luck in your search,
Kind Regards
Jackie

Ko Donna taku ingoa,
Ko taku whanau ko Rawhiti me Marama e te ingoa
Ko waitahanui te tangata whenua Ki taku Tupuna
Kewhea taku marae ??
Ko wai taku Whanau ??
My Greatmother ( My Nani ), who passed on in the late seventies, her name is
Tai Marama or
Taimemeharangi Rawhiti of Waitahanui, Taupo.
Her daughter my Grandmother passed on before I was born. Her name is
Meipara Rawhiti, who married
David Pearson ( now living in Australia )
and had two children. My Father
John who passed away in 1985 (Tragically) and my Namesake Aunty
Bubby who passed away just before I was born. She died from an illness at a very young age
around 21 yrs old.
The name
Northcroft is linked to my
Nani Tai who was a sister to
Henry, Barney
she also had others.
Nani's, mother my great-great grandmothers name was
Rihi Waaka and Nani's father was
Awhi Northcroft.
Nani's Sons names are
Tom Rawhiti of Waitahanui and
Wallace ( Te Waru ) Rawhiti , maybe Tauranga Taupo is where he lives.
Also other sons. Her other daughter,
Rakera, passed away before Nani.
She had a son his name is
Daniel Utiera of Taupo.
If anyone can tell me anything I would be grateful. I have been tied to my Iwi, my whanau
that I have lost through the law of Adoption.Always on my mind in in my heart. My Whakapapa
was stolen by the english words that state that I am not entitled to succeed my Father,
therefore I am unable to succeed to my Whakapapa, my belonging. I am a maori without a
Marae or a Whakapapa.
I only have nga wairua mo taku Tupuna.
I have lived my life so far, yearning for a place that I cannot find my way to. If I felt
more Pakeha than I feel Maori then I could just go home to our cemetary and put down a
flower and say Toodle-loo, but the journey home to me is a very deep and spiritual journey.
When I was 10 the law allowed my name to change through step adoption therefore cutting all
ties with my Whakapapa,my Iwi,my everything that makes up the Hau of a Maori.
Now im 33yr, Now What ? Now I still grieve alone, for the Tupuna I have lost and for my
Whanau that I have always thought of and for my home that I always will yearn for.
I say Change the law. That law has no room for Tikanga Maori. If you accept this law as a
maori, is it not? then sayimg that a maori child has no essence no hau, no Tikanga maori,
no customs or reo or beliefs. that change the name change the person ?? The Maori are a
spiritual race and differ from Anglo saxon who do not have a culture. This is not the
way of my Tupuna, my Ancestors. This I can tell you , onething I definately know.
The law needs to change to protect our Tamariki.
This is just my Ihi my feelings on this i am speaking from experience in the above situation.
Anyone who can can tell me anything,or give me guidance to get some healing, I cherish
everything I have of or From my Whakapapa. But this time my wairua is very sick from
this and a doctor cant make me better.
Thank-you
Donna marjorie.
