B & C Pierce" Rowell BARNES & Mary A. SMITH, DURA7MATER@aol.com Dear Mrs Belew, How delightful to read about early Bartow/Cass county families on your website. I am researching my Alston and Barnes families from GA. and upon review of an 1890 Atlanta City Directory, I noted the following entry: BARNES, Mary A. (widow of Rowell H.) The address was the same as that of my great grandfather, Daniel Benjamin Barnes. This leads me to suspect that Mary A. and Rowell Barnes were possibly the parents of my great grandfather. The LDS database shows a Rowell Barnes married Mary A. Smith on March 15, 1860 in Bartow (Cass) County, GA. Rowell apparently died in the CSA during the WBTS at the approximate age of 30. I know nothing about Rowell's parents or Mary's parents, other than the fact her father was killed by lightening when he was about 50 years old. While I can't be sure, I suspect that Mary A. Smith's family resided in Bartow as well as Rowell Barnes' family before and possibly after 1860. Rowell would have been born in the early 1830s and Mary was born around 1838-1842 . my email address dura7mater@aol.com. Karon Anderson

"felice brunner"Felice.Brunner@faa.gov To:jbelew@bellsouth.net Jean -I still haven't made it to DAR yet. It is not as close to my office as the archives and I wouldn't be able to make it there it at lunch. I was just looking through some of my moms books. One is, "A History of Rome and Floyd County" by George Macruder Battey, jr. On page 404 I found a listing for Mitchell Guards. It is not clear to me if this is a civil war or WWI listing. All the officers and privates are listed. Under the privates is a J.C. Willis and a J. N. Coker. My mom had an uncle Jesse Claude Willis who was in WWI. But if this is the civil war it would have to be another JC Willis. That would also mean that some of the Willis's had moved to the area by 1862. The book is confusing because it does mention the Mitchell Guards as a civil war company but then before the listing it has a picture of a soldier who the caption says was killed in France in 1918. What do you think?

Cemetery lookup "Randy and Carol Ball" Eli Stroup Family of Cass/Bartow County "Deborah & Jim Stroupe" madisoncanada@home.com Hey Jean:I am looking for information on the family of Eli Stroup, who lived in Cass/Bartow County from the 1840's until at least 1863. He was mustered into Captain John Stocks' Etowah Guards on 7/15/1863 as part of the defence of the Etowah Ironworks. That is the last information we have on Eli. In the 1850 census of Cass County he is shown living there with his wife Elizabeth Levina Shetley Stroup and a son - Alexander age 15 at the time. He was born in 1801 in Lincoln County, NC and married his second wife Elizabeth Shetley in South Carolina about 1833 before moving to Georgia. I assume he was following his cousin Moses Stroup as Moses and Moses' father Jacob built ironworks in SC and GA. Apparently, Eli did not later follow Moses to Alabama as he was still in Bartow County during the War based on his muster into the Etowah Guards at the age of 62. If you could list my request in your Missing Links article in the Cartersville paper, I would appreciate it. Also, if you can point me in the right direction for further info, I am often in Kennesaw and could visit Bartow to do some research. My email address is as follows: James R. Stroupe @MadisonCanada@home.com

Query "diane sabido" Clark Turner, et al, Cass Co GA 1840 JaniceCB@aol.com Searching for kinfolks - parents and siblings of Clark Turner, born NC ca 1800-1807, who was living in Cass Co. GA, wife Mary, with family in 1840, but by 1850 had moved to Walker Co. GA with children: Nancy M., 13 Alice P. 11,Mary A., 8 James R. (or K), 7, Berry B. 4 and Martha E(lizabeth) 1 year. Living near them in 1850 Walker Co was John H. Turner, age 53, and wife Elizabeth Turner; also Pleasant Turner, age 65 and his wife, Leanah. Also, in 1830 Cass Co. GA census were Hiram Turner - between 20 and 30 and Larkin Turner, between 20 & 30, with a male age 60-70, living in the household. Does anyone know if these were kinfolks of Clark Turner? In the 1860 Walker Co. GA census, Clark and Mary Turner had another young son, John J. Turner. In 1860, Walker Co. GA, Clark Turner's neighbors were Fielding (age 51) and wife, Nancy Turner; Jesse Turner, 26, and wife Lisa; and Whale Turner, age 50, with wife, Mary, age 46. Whale was born in NC; Mary in SC. Also, living in the county were Wade H. and Sarah Turner; and a widow, Elizabeth Turner, age 45, with 13 year old son, James A. Another Elizabeth Turner, age 75, born SC, was living in the household of Martha J. Pougan, a 32-year old widow, probably daughter of Elizabeth. Does anyone know if these folks are related to Clark Turner. Does anyone know the names of Clark's parents? Sheriff of Bartow Co. 1962? From: Pat Zettner Organization: FamilyFotoFinder Hi. A nearly 40-year-old family letter informs me that the Sheriff of Bartow Co. in 1962 was Ralph ____, a descendant (g-son?) of Joseph Henry Cole. I am trying to identify old Cole pictures, and some may be from this man's line. Would like to find out his surname, if possible, and whether he still has family in the county.

Adcocks of Bartow (Cass)County "Jennie" kellum@mail.newnanutilities.org I am seeking information on William "Billy"Adcock, married to Melissa Hayes; 3 children: Marion (Born 1857), Thomas (Born 1858), and Lucy (Born 1859). Melissa and the children are on the census in Bartow Co.(Pine Log Community) in 1870. She was married a second time to a Henry Perkins, but I don't have a date. I believe that William Adcock is my great-great grandfather. I am unable to locate any records of him aside from these census records unless he is William T. Adcock from Bartow Co. who served in the Civil War and died at Rock Island, IL on 11 June 1865. I don't know if this was the location of a Civil War Prison, but perhaps that was the case. I also think that Marion was my great grandfather, but aside from this information, I have been unable to track him further. Melissa and Henry Perkins had a child listed in the 1870 census named Hamilton Perkins. Blake Adcock. Newnan, GA

Littleton B family of GEORGIA "David Baker" dbake@arkansas.net MY ANCESTORS MIGRATED TO ARKANSAS FROM GEORGIA IN 1853 ALONG WITH MEMBERS OF THE LAWRENCE FAMILY WHICH SOME MEMBERS OF THE BAKER FAMILY INTERMARRIED. LITTLETON BAKER, SON OF JOHN BAKER, CAME FROM GWINNETTE COUNTY GEORGIA TO CASS COUNTY. I THINK THEY LIVED NEAR THE TOWN OF CASS. JOHN BAKER WAS THE SON OF ELIAS BAKER, A RWS FROM AROUND SALISBURY, N.C. I KNOW THE LINAGE OF THE FAMILY, BUT I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THE DETAILS OF WHY THEY MOVED AS THEY DID. I WONDER IF LITTLETON BAKER MOVED TO CASS COUNTY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF INDIAN LANDS THAT WERE MADE AVAILABLE. ALSO, I WONDER WHY THEY LEFT GEORGIA IN 1853 FOR ARKANSAS. ARKANSAS WAS A WILDERNESS AT THAT TIME AND THE AREA THEY MOVED TO WAS NOT GOOD FARMLAND. THEY SETTLED AROUND SEARCY COUNTY AND IT IS POOR, ROCKY LAND. LOTS OF TIMBER AND WILDLIFE AT THE TIME. ALSO, LITTLETON BAKER WAS MARRIED TO ADELINE MORGAN, SAID TO BE A RELATIVE OF GENERAL JOHN HUNT MORGAN OF KENTUCKY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND EXACTLY HOW SHE WAS RELATED TO JOHN HUNT MORGAN, BUT SHE WAS ARRESTED AND PUT IN PRISON AT SPRINGFIELD, MO AND LATER AT FT SCOTT, KANSAS. SUPPOSEDLY BECAUSE OF HER RELATIONSHIP TO GEN. MORGAN. I HAVE A RECORD OF THE LINAGE OF THE BAKERS BACK TO 1760, OR EARLIER, BUT NONE OF MY FAMILY KNOWS THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION OF WHY THEY CAME TO ARKANSAS. COULD YOU HELP ME OUT? DAVID LITTLETON BAKER. DBAKE@ARKANSAS.NET
