"Al & Brenda Hammill" hammill@ucinet.com Sorry to bother you with this, but my grandfather told me he was born in Post Oak, Georgia. This was in 1880. I cannot find such a town listed anywhere and assume it is long gone. His middle name was Bartow. When I saw your web page for Bartow County, I wondered if Post Oak had been in that county at one time. His name was Chievous B Greene. I'm simply trying to track the family down. Could you find me an answer to the Post Oak question? Thanks, Al Hammill.

Underwood Research Sbbthorne@aol.com I'm trying to find some information on my Underwood family. My great-grandfather, Wiley Harris Underwood and his three sisters Martha, Georgia, and Annie, were all born in Kingston in the late 1880's. Wiley married Leila Belle Mitchell, Georgia married Walter F. Williams, and Annie married Willie Copeland. My family said there was an Underwood cemetery one mile outside of Kingston on a hill (Sorry, that's the only directions anyone could give me!). ..no one seems to have heard of a cemetery or the Underwood's for that matter. Parham, Samsgrande@aol.com Jean I cannot thank you enough for sending the name and address of C. J. Harris. I spoke with him last night, he has lots of info on my John M. Parham and on my Father John Albert Parham, especially from the John W. Akin Masonic lodge in Taylorsville, seems my John M. Parham was one of the charter members of this lodge. He also tells me he has photos. I plan on meeting with him when I come in a few weeks. He also tells me the Taylorsville cemetery is cataloged and you have a Heritage Book I and II. I know my GGgrandfather is buried in on the Davis property, with his first wife Hannah buried in Van Wert cemetery. Jean, again thanks for all you help. Anita

John Lawrence Jones Pvt. Ga Dot dotg@mailhost.onramp.net Jean Belew Registrar National, Dear Mrs Belew I apreciate your interest to my request regarding my ancestor as above. I have had no luck even through National Archives. I am asking for any dates , parentage, place of birth etc. I have requested a copy of my approved papers from national, however I have all that information regarding his marrage into the Taliaferro family and his Ga. connection. Any information you are priviledged to when you return to D. C. would be greately appreciated. I am sure as genealogist you understand the frustration of a "dead end" search. Congratulations on being elected Registrar National. It is a tremendous job and I do appreciate you accepting this position. Best regards Dottie Powell Graves

Ramsaur Genealogy "Jack Creech" I was so thrilled a few years ago when I "found" my g-g grandfather, Philip Ramsaur, buried in Fairmount! Others, I am sure, knew where he was, but I had only heard that "he went to Georgia to preach". Was able to see the Ramsaur Graveyard and the minister showed me the land that he farmed. As well, Philip founded the Baptist Church in Fairmount. He came from Cherokee County in S. C., near Blacksburg, S. C. and attended the Buffalo Baptist Church there. His first wife, Sarah Summey Ramsaur, died in 1825. He married Mary Rhodes on March 15, 1833. Philip was born in Lincolnton, N. C. in 1784, son of David and Mary Warlick Ramsaur. Philip's grandfather came from Austria in 1727. Philip's son, David, by Mary Rhodes practiced medicine in Rome, GA.You may know all of this, but thought I would send it. Joan Creech (Spartanburg, S. C.) E-mail joanjac@netzero.net

Charles Baker "Elizabeth" Seeking the Charles Baker, Revolutionary soldier, buried at Pine Log. Need information about his children,---their spouses, the date of their marriages, where they lived most of their lives and where they are buried,----especially Joel Baker and Ann Baker Terrell.

John (or James) M. Patton/Kennedy Orphaned children GKYOUNG72@aol.com Jean, I hope you can help me. My grandfather, William Mallory Kennedy, and his siblings, Dorothy, Leonora, George, and Charles, were living in the home of J. M. Patton in 1850 in Gordon Co., GA. Patton had 13 slaves and only one other male who I assume was his son, Allen. My Kennedy children were orphaned ca 1842-45 by James M. Kennedy and ? (I do not know his wife.). I have no knowledge of why they were in the home of John Patton. Their Kennedy grandparents were deceased but they had many uncles, aunts, etc. I am assuming Patton had been in Gordon Co. when it was Cass or Bartow. My connections to the Pattons are several, though they are thin. My grandfather, son of William Mallory Kennedy, was named Charles (for his great-grandfather) Patton Kennedy. Dorothy Mallory Jarrett Kennedy, had married Col. John Patton of Buncombe Co., NC. Was this Patton in Gordon Co. part of that Patton line? There was also a John Patton Kennedy who was in Gordon Co. for a short period of time and then migrated to Alberville, AL. My Kennedys had been in Madison Co., AL before their deaths (Charles Kennedy and Dorothy Mallory Jarrett Kennedy). You are doing a great service and I am sure there are many of us who are very appreciative. Re: Bennett monnie2468@webtv.net I'm trying so hard to find my great grandfather, William Lee Bennett. I know both my aunt and my father have told me he was from Kingston, Ga. I have managed to trace both my husbands ancestors to England and my Waterhouse side of the family on my family except for any further back than my great grandfather on my grandmother's side.

Brownlow Family "Jason Lee Edwards" COLMAYO@email.msn.com James Madison Brownlow and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips James Madison (Bud) Brownlow , son of James A. H. Brownlow and Jane Anne Austin, Was born June 1, 1852 in Forsyth Co., Georgia. In about 1855 he moved with his family to Van Wert in Polk Co., Georgia. After his father returned home from war they moved to Bartow Co., Georgia. On May 1, 1879 he married Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Phillips, daughter of James Phillips and Rhoda Martha Collins. She was born Nov. 13, 1861 in Bartow Co., Ga. The story is told that she was born while her father was off fighting for the Confederacy when she was born. One day while her and her mother were in town when a man came walking up the tracks. Her mother looked up and said "Well Lord, yonder comes Jim Phillips". Soon after that her father died of a sickness he had contracted in the army. She only got to spend a few days with her father. After his death Sarah ,along with her mother and sister, had to survive on their own. . The story is told that during reconstruction they would take pine boughs and attach them to the side of their house for shade in the summer. . James and Sarah had the following children: George Lester Brownlow b. March 14, 1880, Annie Lee Brownlow b. September 12, 1881, married Hicks Carter December 28, 1907, Rhoda Judson Brownlow b. August 27, 1883, Willie Estelle Brownlow b. April 26, 1886, married Bartow Carter February 25, 1917, Virgil Ephriam Brownlow b. March 1, 1888, and Oliver Johnson Brownlow b. July 8, 1895, married Ethel Briton February 10, 1924. In about 1900 James moved back to Van Wert. Then in abt 1910 they bought an old white house in Aragon. James and his family grew what they needed to eat and any thing they couldn't grow they bought. During the World Wars train loads of soldiers would stop in Aragon and the family would take flowers to them. Many of those men went over to Europe and never returned. Every year for Sarah's birthday her children would throw her a big party which would be attended by sometimes over two hundred people. It was not un common for Governor Talmadge to stop by as well. They would take the furniture out of the house and line the walls with tables of every kind of food imaginable. They would hire local women to do some of the cooking. The main food was a huge pot of stew that was cooked over a fire. There was always plenty at the Brownlow house. James was a member of Prospect Baptist church. He died on Jan 3, 1931 and is buried in the church cemetery next to Sarah who passed away on April 15, 1951.

Abponder@aol.com Jean, Here I am again begging for some more information from your Genealogy Society. I have tried to call the office to no avail the last two days but I am going to be sending a letter of request for lots of information, because this lady's ancestors were up in your area a LONG time! She is mortified to get on an interstate and I told her I had some great friends up there in Cartersville. She is getting excited about genealogy and I am helping her with her papers. She would be willing to donate to the society and certainly to pay for all copy and postage fees. (By the way, I sent the society a check for $2.00 for copy fees on the Bayless and Irby family info you sent and it was never cashed.) We finally got that lady into DAR but I had to get on internet and do research in Rochester, NY! and even in Medina, NY! That was SOMETHING! I think I joined your society but don't know when my dues are due--check and see if you will for I like getting the Quarterly and want to support your society too. My question to you is: How much is available on Gordon Co.? I have a Jesse Swain who married Talitha Smith in 1818--this may have been in Franklin Co. or even in SC or TN. At any rate this family was on the Gordon Co. Census living in the (Indian Name) Ooglathlaga or something like that. They went to the Salem Baptist Church there and there was something about Lily Pond--was that a community? (Maybe near Adairsville?) Their daughter Mary Ann Swain married Joseph Lockhart Neel on 2 Nov 1848 and those Neels were in Cartersville for a long time. I know you are going to have lots of Cemetery info and maybe also marriage info once they got to Cartersville. I would like as many authentic records as possible but I think DAR will take those Cemetery Books, etc. as proofs still. I will send all this in a letter of request along with my membership dues for the year. Unless I am reminded, I can't keep up with when dues are due for all these places and I know you could use the donations. From Joseph Lockhart Need>James Monroe Neel>Robert William Neel. I bet you have access to some good old Newspaper Obituaries for some of these too because we can't find the will of James Lockhart Neel and he died in 1909 and was an attorney. I wonder if it was somewhere else?? another county? Anyway, I hope you are doing well. I left a message on the answering machine at the Genealogy Society there for they can call me without charge--we are in same area code. My number is 770-227-0577 if you have some suggestions. Many thanks, Anne Ponder in Griffin
