1. THOMAS EVANS1 MADDEX was born June 14, 1842 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and died March 18, 1908 in Baymore, New Jersey. He married MARGARET MILLICENT GREENWOOD Unknown in unknown.

Notes
Thomas Evans Maddex was born June 14, 1842, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was well known in the Western Union Telegraph Company, having entered its employ when a mere boy. In 1831, he was in charge of the telegraph office in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

He enlisted in Braxton' s Artillery and served with high honors through the four years of the Civil War. Standing by the side of General Robert E. Lee, having been his telegraph operator during the last year of the war, he received and sent the message that General Lee had surrendered the Army of Virginia to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomatox Courthouse on April 09, 1865.

He then resumed his duties at the Western Union Telegraph Co. working in different states until November 13, 1897, when he was stricken with paralysis in Washington D. C. . He died March 18, 1908 after eleven years of suffering from paralysis.

His funeral took place at his daugther's home, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Bates,( Carrie Maddex Bates), at 1512 York St. N. W. , Baymore, New Jersey on March 21, 1908.

He was survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Millicent Greenwood Maddex, and five children.

2. CLARENCE OLIVER2 MADDEX (THOMAS EVANS1) was born November 19, 1880 in Baltimore, Maryland, and died August 12, 1954 in Danville, Illinois. He married MAUDE MARIE GRAVES May 05, 1907 in Nelson BC, Canada, daughter of James Graves and Harriet Sprague.
