Louisa Jane Wood was born 5 May 1856 in Dyersville, Dubuque County, Iowa and was the oldest child of William H. Wood and Rebecca Mellinger. She spent her youth in Iowa, moving with her family from Dubuque county, to Franklin county and then to Hardin county where she met William Hart Taylor who was then working for her uncle, William Mellinger, Jr. They were married in Eldora, Hardin Co, IA on 12 October 1873.

In 1903 Louisa, William and their family moved to Tonkawa, Kay Co, OK where they spent their remaining years. I have a wonderful family portrait which was taken on their 40th wedding anniversary in front of their home there.

Louisa died on 23 June 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co, OK and she was interred in Prairie View Cemetery, Kay Co, OK.

This poem about Louisa and William Taylor was clipped from a Kay county newspaper and passed down to me. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the paper and date.

Also passed down to me is this newspaper article about a trip they took.

"TAKES FIRST TRIP IN FIFTY-ONE YEARS - (Special to the Tribune)

TONKAWA, Oct. 30. --"We've been too busy to gad about much," say Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Taylor of this city, who returned last week from the first trip they have made together during their entire 51 years of married life.
In addition to bringing up enough of their own progeny to insure them a place among the nation's patriotic citizens, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have acted as parents to several adopted children.
They recently spent four weeks with their son, Gene Taylor, at Cabool, Mo., their first trip together in 51 years of busy married life. Their belated honeymoon occurred about a year after the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary."
