Welcome To Rockdale County, Georgia
Rockdale County, Georgia History
Rockdale County was created by the
Georgia Legislature in 1870. The county's name was chosen because
of a vein of rock (mostly granite) located throughout the County.
The county seat is Conyers. Rockdale is the second smallest
county in Georgia. While Rockdale is the smallest Metro Atlanta
county, it is becoming a leader among Georgia counties. Flanked
by DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton and Walton counties, Rockdale
encompasses only 132 square miles and is home to 65,000
residents. More than 90 manufacturers and three dozen Fortune 500
firms call Rockdale County home. Rockdale County was host to the
Equestrian events at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
