(Romans 6:23). Man's Responsibility: FAITH "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8, 9). The Result: PEACE WITH GOD AND ACCESS "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:1, 2). "In whom (Christ) we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins:" (Colossians 1:14). The Assurance: SEALED "In whom (Christ) ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also, after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,...." (Ephesians 1:13). If you are convinced by God's word that you are a sinner, and that Christ died "FOR" your sins, you can be saved this very moment. 1. David Wilkerson's letter speaks for me. 2. Here in Australia, knocking is a national pastime. There is a fine line between sharing genuine concern and becoming one of a large corpus of knockers. I encourage you to check which side of the line your words, titles and content communicate to the re der? If you've admitted a "party spirit" unintentionally, today's a good time to invite it to leave again! 3. David's point - in my words, there's two winds blowing and one is definitely not of God. The evidence I have is that the other is of God - so the caution is to resist the devil, not the Holy Spirit and if both are at work in the one meeting at the same time, our prayers need some divine fine tuning to really hit the mark! Also, I note that it seems that the heart attitude of people going to meetings under the general "revival fire" type banner is the key. Those who go seeking to grow in their relationsh p with God are met by God - those who desire a spiritual experience get one but I can't vouch for its spiritual source - those who go to see what's happening .... well! I hope you get my drift - so many have put so much effort into resisting these phenomena, yet Gamliel's advice rings through the milennia. Of course, God's warning to Ezekiel also rings - the prophets have spoken their warning to those they perceive to be sinning - the blood is not accounted to the prophets who have spoken - so perhaps we can all now relax, praise God according to our custom and let Him exercise judgement as He sees fit. Oh God, reward each one according to his works, Amen.

I AGREE THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE KNOCKING FOR THE SAKE OF KNOCKING. WE SHOULD BE EDIFYING THE BODY OF CHRIST. THAT BEING SAID, I ALSO AGREE THAT THERE ARE TWO SPIRITS AT WORK HERE. THAT BEING THE CASE, WE NEED TO BE CAREDFUL TO DISCERN, BECAUSE IT IS AS DANG ROUS TO ATTRIBUTE A DEMONIC OR FLESHLY ACT TO GOD AS IT IS TO ATTRIBUTE AN ACT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO ANOTHER SOURCE.

NOW, I'D LIKE TO COMMENT SPECIFICALLY ON THE FOLLOWING QUOTE FROM YOUR COMMENT

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THOSE WHO SEEKING TO GROW IN THEIR SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE ARE MET BY GOD? IF WE DO NOT KNOW THE SOURCE OF A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE, SHOULD WE OPEN OURSELVES UP TO THAT SPIRIT, KNOWING THAT IT COULD BE A DEMON? SCRIPTURE IS THAT WE SHOULD OT OPEMN OURSELVES UP TO ANY SPIRIT NOT OF GOD. GOOD AND SINCERE INTENTIONS ARE NOT AN ALTERNATE PATH TO GOD - jESUS SAID THAT NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY HIM, AND THAT DOES NOT CHANGE IF THE PERSON IS SINCERE BUT SEEKING THE WRONG GOD.

SINCE YOU RAISED THE POINT OF EZEKIEL, I THINK WE SHOULD LOOK AT THAT AS WELL. YOU REFERENCE TO WHAT EZEKIEL SAID WAS SOMEWHAT TRUNCATED AND LOST THE KEY POINT OF THE MESSAGE THAT GOD GAVE TO EZEKIAL. YOUR REFERENCE IS FROM EZ 3:19, YET IF YOU READ BEFORE THAT IN EZ 3:18, YOU WILL SEE THAT GOD TURNED THAT AROUND AND SAID TO EZEKIEL THAT IF HE FAILED TO WARN THE PEOPLE, THAT THEIR BLOOD WOULD BE ON HIS HANDS BECAUSE HE REMAINED SILENT. I THINK THAT THIS HAS TO BE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED WHEN WE ARE TESTING THE SPIRITS AND WE SEE THAT THE SPIRITS THAT SOME IN THE CHURCH FOLLOW ARE NOT OF GOD...DO WE KEEP QUIET AS GOD WARNED AGAINST, OR DO WE SPEAK IN LOVE AND TRUTH? GOD DID NOT GIVE EZEKIEL THE CHOICE TO RELAX AND LET THINGS HAPPEN AS THEY MAY, HE WAS WARNED NOT TO KEEP QUIET.

LASTLY, YOUR REFERENCE TO GAMALIEL DESERVES COMMENT. THE ADVICE FROM GAMALIEL IS FOUND IN ACTS 5:33-42. GAMALIEL WAS A PHARISEE AND A TEACHER OF THE LAW, NOT A FOLLOWER OF JESUS. WE SEE NOTHING IN SCRIPTURE SUGGESTING THAT HIS ADVICE WAS GODLY, BUT RATHER IT WAS ADVICE BASED UPON HUMAN CONCERN FOR OTHERS(GAMALIEL TAUGHT THE LAW TO PAUL - ACTS 22:3). FURTHER, GAMALIEL'S ADVICE, IF APPLIED TODAY WOULD SUGGEST THAT JESUS ERRED WHEN HE SAID THAT HE WAS THE ONLY WAY, BECAUSE CERTAINLY THE MUSLIM AND MORMON FAIT S HAVE REMAINED SUCCESSFUL, AND THROUGHOUT HISTORY, WE SEE THAT CHRISTIANITY HAS FREQUENTLY BEEN AN OPPRESSED MINORITY, NOT SUCCESSFUL AS GAMALIEL SUGGESTED. SO ACCORDING TO GAMALIEL, THAT WOULD MEAN THAT THESE OTHER RELIGIONS ARE OF GOD. IN A EFFORT TO C T THIS SHORT, I WON'T SAY MORE ABOUT GAMALIEL'S ERRORS, BUT SUFFICE IT TO SAY THAT GAMALIEL'S ADVICE, EVEN THOUGH IT SAVED LIVES, IS NOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WORD OF GOD.

IF I MAY CLOSE WITH A REFERENCE TO PAUL. IN GAL 1:6-7, PAUL SAYS: "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ to another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the go ple of Christ." PAUL DID NOT STEP BACK AND RELAX WHEN HE SAW ANOTHER GOSPEL BEING PREACHED IN THE CHURCH. HE GAVE THE SAME MESSAGE TO THE CHURCH AT CORINTH (2 COR 11). INDEED, I WILL GO SO FAR AS TO SAY THAT NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE DO WE SEE A LAISSEZ-FAIRE APPROACH TO SPIRITUAL DISCERNEMNT TAUGHT.

I WOULD ASK YOU TO COSNIDER THESE POINTS. IN 2 TIM 3:16, WE ARE TOLD THAT ALL SCRIPTURE IS SUITABLE FOR TESTING, IN TITUS 1:9, WE ARE EXHORTED TO SOUND DOCTRINEAND IN 1 JOHN 4;1, WE ARE TOLD TO TEST ALL SPIRITS.

Tom - I liked the "spirit" in which you wrote the background on Holy Laughter. It was refreshing to read your perpective. Many of the statements you quoted could have several meanings depending on context and as one that was there, I think you concluded incorrectly. I personnally would like it if there weren't so many people taking statements out of context and inaccurately representing intentions to others who without other data, accept the suppositions put forth. The use of electronic information has taken so much away from heart to heart communication and subsequently our ability to "rightly divide" based on the Word of God. I think it would be wonderful if your article was more on your Scriptural exposition on what you think God is saying about His current day activities (or lack of activity) rather than an, in my opinion, an inaccurate evaluation of others. I'd like to see you retract the article.

Thanks for your comments.

I appreciate your concern, but you say that you would like me to retract my comments because the statements "could have several different meanings depending upon context". You also say that you were there. First, since my article deals with the historic a d doctrinal roots since the early 1900's, I'd be interested in knowing exactly what event it is to which you refer.

Second, we spent much time speaking to many people, including some in leadership in the movement, checking out the context of statements, going to sources which were in favour of the movement to double and triple check what we found. We omitted many thing which would have made the case stronger, but for which, in our view, inadequate evidence existed.

I ask at the start of my document for those who feel errors exist to come forward, identify exactly where the errors are, provide me with two credible sources that I may use for verification. I would ask you to do likewise if you feel errors exist. please document the errors, and the sources by which I may verify your comments, and email me at smithtj@oocities.com, and I'll check it out.

I always advise those who read these documents to do their own research. I gave many references to help people check out what I said. Please go do the research and share your findings with me. I have provided many links on my page,a nd if you wish to see nd hear what was actually said, many tapes and videos are available from both sides. One good one that gives excerpts is the "Counterfeit Revival" tape which can be ordered through my page.

Last, you were looking "Scriptural exposition on what you think God is saying about His current day activities (or lack of activity)". I think that if you take a little extra time and look around you'll find some of what you are looking for in that regard For instance check out the following:
