FATAL WORK OF DIPHTHERIA IN
THE VILLAGE OF TWO MILE
Death of Three Children in
One Family in Two Days and
the Fourth Child Dying --
The family of John
Anderson, at Two Mile, on
the O.B. & W. R.R., has
been decimated this week in
the most shocking and
distressing manner and
outsiders can form no idea
of the crushing weight of
affliction by reading the
bare details. Last week
Mr. Anderson's family
consisted of himself, his
wife and four bright little
girls, the idols of their
parents and the favorites
of the neighborhood. The
dread disease, diphtheria,
obtained a foothold and
speedily all the children
were more or less
prostrated. On Wednesday,
to and anguish of the
parents, Clara, aged three
years, and Amanda, aged
five years, died one only a
short time after the other.
Thursday a single grave
received the two tiny forms
and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson
sat beside the death bed of
Minnie, aged ten years, to
see her young life go out
while their hearts were
torn with unspeakable
anguish.
The third funeral
occurred yesterday. Maude,
the oldest, twelve years
old, is lying at the point
of death and no hopes are
entertained of her
recovery. Possibly at this
writing the last of the
little ones has passed
away. Mr. Anderson is a
well to do farmer. A few
days ago his wife broke her
arm in two places by a fall
and is just able to be
about the house. She is
almost crazed with grief!
