In 1885, David Hall and his four daughters, (the Hydes, Cooks, Thompsons, and Raishes)
decided to move to Nebraska because of the lure of
free land and a new start. None of the families were farmers, (the Halls and Raishes were lumbermen) but they went anyway. They settled in Loup County, Nebraska founding Madison Square. Times were hard at first, but they gradually prevailed. Other surnames associated with this family:
Strong, Strohl, Belch, Bowley.
David Hall's brother, Joel, needed a place to bury his wife, Addie, and couldn't afford to buy a plot and gravestone.
David allowed Joel to bury his wife in the place he had already prepared for Amanda when she died. Amanda is buried with David in another plot in the cemetery.
