Meditation and Reflection on:

Committing to Jesus

Bible Reading & Meditation

Joshua 24:15

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

John 10:9

"I am the door; if anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.

Reflection

January is named after the Roman god Janus, the guardian of doors and gates. The month of January, which opens the door for the new year and closes it to the past, was sacred to him. As a door has two sides, so Janus had two faces. The doors of his temple in the Forum were shut in time of peace and open in time of war. In Rome's history these gates were rarely closed. Born when Rome ruled the world, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, also associated Himself with a door...."I am the door; if anyone enters by Me, he will be saved." We need to commit ourselves to Jesus this New Year. As this year has begun...who are we for? Janus or Jesus? If we live for things of the world--idolatries, materialism, sensualism--we are for Janus. But if we put God on top, seek His kingdom, work for peace because we know we are forgiven and reconciled with God through the death of His Son, we are for Jesus. He is the only way to the Father, the only door to eternal life. May He guard us this year and always.

Wait on the Lord...take deep breaths...inhaling the goodness of God and exhaling the pressure and stress of your day. Open your heart fully and allow the Lord Jesus Christ to enter. Talk with Him. Jesus, you are the unchanging Christ. Be with me and my love ones throughout this year. I will commit myself to You. I will commit myself to your Kingdom. I will look away from the world and it's false idols, it's materialism and it's temptations. Instead, I will allow you to dwell inside of me. I will do Your work for Your Kingdom. Be with me Lord Jesus and be with all my loved ones this coming year.

I write in my journal any thoughts or feelings I have experienced during this meditation and reflection.

Prayer Focus

Father in Heaven, thank you for always being there for me...even during times that I am not willing to give up myself or the world. I put my trust in You. I pray that Jesus Christ, Your Son, will be with me and all my loved ones this coming year. I will turn from the world and turn to You. Help me Lord...Help me to put my trust in Christ and let Him be with me always. Jesus is my door to You. May I always walk with Him for He lives and is the same yesterday, today and forever. I ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ the Lord who lived and died for my sake and the sake of all who believe. Amen.
