A Prayer to Be Spirit-filled

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father
of our lord Jesus Christ,
from whom the whole family in heaven
and earth is named, that he would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His spirit
in the inner man,
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the width and length and depth and height--
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedlingly abundantly
above all that we ask or think,
according the power that works in us,
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus,
to all generations, forever and ever.
Amen

Ephesians 3:14-21

Have you lost your commitment?

It's a brand new year,...it's also the last year of this decade! What better time than this month to talk about our Christian "commitment". Making a true and complete commitment to God in our soul to honor our Christian faith is this month's topic.

How many people at this time of year fling around commitments for a variety of things in the new year that never seem to uphold in the longrun. It often makes using the term "commitment" rather meaningless! The true definintion of commitment is to bind, as by a promise. A promise is an agreement to "do" or not to do something.

When we made that initial "promise" to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we may have intended to keep that promise, but many commitments to Christ may have over time become broken. Now is the time to examine our commitment! This is the one commitment in your life that will have complete control on your home, family, marriage and relationships.

Commitment is: ----> 1st to God = Time spent with God!

You cannot be in touch with God,
live by the Holy Spirit,
without spending good, quality and
quantity of time with Him!

When we spend time with God
we receive the indwelling Christ,
which gives us strength from the Holy Spirit
and roots and grounds us in our faith!

..let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus,
the author and finisher of our faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2

When committing oneself to Christ, to your faith, you also commit yourself to your family, your marriage, to all responsibilities in Christian love. As you honor your commitment, it will compel the believer to walk in perfection, in the image of Christ! Those who think Christian perfection is not possible are those who lack commitment. Make no mistake about that!

True Commitment to our Lord requires denying oneself. In this life we must recognize that it is easier to "commit" sin than to "commit to Holy living"! This is where the commitment to Christ becomes the saving grace of a spirit-filled life. Walking alone, not in constant fellowship with Christ, one is just looking for trouble. If your having difficulty with your spouse....don't look at them for the immediate answer to solve your problems. Look at yourself and your own commitment to Christ. When our hearts are right with God,....He will provide all the strength and wisdom necessary! There is no doubt that God is a rewarder of those who dilligently seek Him! That is His promise! (Hebrews 11:6)

But also for this very reason,
giving all diligence,
add to your faith virtue,
to virtue knowledge,
to knowledge self-control,
to self-control perseverance,
to perseverance godliness,
to godliness brotherly kindness,
and to brotherly kindness love.
For if these things are yours and abound,
you will be neither barren nor unfruitful
in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted,
even to blindness,
and has forgotten that he
was cleansed from his old sins.

2 Peter 1:5-9

Have you forgotten your first Love?
Do you need to be renewed in the spirit of your mind? Right now wherever you are make that commitment, your promise, an unbreakable vow to walk closely with your Lord. For each and every day....to make your first priority time with God.

As you honor God with your life....your spirit transforms, and life will never be the same again!

One final note: a wonderful by-product of a commited Christian's life, is a heart enlarged with compassion for others regardless of their sin. This "love of others" mirrors God love for us. Life takes on a new "peaceful" meaning that can hardly be described.
It's really something worth striving for!
And it all begins with a true commitment!

God Bless you!
