<JerseyL> hi
<Sweetcake> hello..
<Sweetcake> Wonder where everyone is?
RiffRaff [cutter@p23-ts5.en.net] has joined #web-o-crats
<JerseyL> hi Riff
<RiffRaff> hello everyone...
<Sweetcake> Hello Riff
<Sweetcake> Has anyone heard from Jeff?
<JerseyL> Not lately
<RiffRaff> Has anyone attempted #4, because if not, I'll gladly write the synopsis they are asking for..I need to catch up. :)
<karen> hi all
<JerseyL> hi
<JerseyL> Glad we don't have another assignment!!!
<karen> I saw Jeff last Saturday is that late enough for you?
<Sweetcake> Not like him to be so quiet for so many days. Have not heard a peep from him since before Sunday night class and he was not there either
<RiffRaff> Well, I've been saddled with stiomach flu since last week. :(
<RiffRaff> er stomach
<JerseyL> :(
<Sweetcake> Riff Raff.. what was your assignment.. I forgot?
<karen> He was ok on Sat. I was weekending in his city and our respective families met for supper.
<RiffRaff> thats why, if no one really wants to write the synopsis for assignment #4, I'll be happy to do so.
<karen> But there's a lot of creeping crud going around
<Sweetcake> hope he is not sick or something.
<RiffRaff> I was supposed to work on graphics with Pattie and Lexa.
<RiffRaff> so i wrote Carol to see if I could write the assignment #4..the synopsis as to how people use graphics and why?
<RiffRaff> so I figured, since I havent been able to do much, might as well do that. :)
<JerseyL> sounds good to me
<Sweetcake> I guess that has been covered, so I do not see why you can't do #4 since it has not been done, this way Steve can concentrate on #5 since he was sick also he did not get to do any homework either.
<JerseyL> Are you all better?
<RiffRaff> I have a good idea what to write.
RiffRaff smiles and blows on a paw. "I'm a professional writer, after all." :)
<RiffRaff> I feel better than I did. :(
<RiffRaff> I still need to sip coca cola syrup now and then.
<Sweetcake> Good then #4 is yours! Just email Steve to let him know that your gonna do it and this way all he has to do to catch up is #5.
who [scharney@hd35-091.compuserve.com] has joined #web-o-crats
<JerseyL> hi Steve
<RiffRaff> ok, will do, hon. :)
<who> Whos here
<karen> first base ;-)
<Sweetcake> I think the actual #$ is how we plan to use graphics on our page
<RiffRaff> there's Steve now. :)
<RiffRaff> Steve, I got Assignment 4 covered. :)
<who> i don't like the sound of that!
<who> oh...okay...never mind
<Sweetcake> Steve.... Riff Raff has volunteered to do #4 on the HW as he was out sick also, this way all you need to post is #5 is that all right with you?
<who> i am about 1/2 way thru 5...one of my sources fell thru
<Sweetcake> Do you mind if Riff Raff does #4?
<who> I don't mind at all....i don't think i ever had #4???
<RiffRaff> well, great. :) thats settled then. :)
<Sweetcake> I think Jeff said that you had an idea about the use of graphics on our site and that you were going to present it to the group?
<who> what i have hanging is #5, member bio table(?), hw examples(?), and my "project"
<Sweetcake> that was assignmnet #4.
<Sweetcake> great then we are covered on all bases then.
<who> oh...i know what Jeff was talking about now...
<who> my only proposal was that we use a template type of set up
<who> where all the first link pages looked "similar"
<Sweetcake> yes he may not have mentioned it but that was assignment #4 that has to be posted to our page, but do not worry about it now as Riff Raff has volunteered to do it and post it.
<RiffRaff> i have assignment #4 saved in my messages...i'll just look it over..check out the logs, and write it. :)
<Sweetcake> yes..
<who> you know....a color scheme...frames or not
<who> etc
<Sweetcake> sounds good, I think they only want a simple paragraph or 2.
karen sets mode: +o Sweetcake
<RiffRaff> oh heck..i planned on two-three pages. :)
<who> but also means coordinating the pages

<who> your move
<RiffRaff> crack my coconut, Steve. :)
who sets mode: +o Sweetcake
<RiffRaff> if you can email your ideas, that'd be best. :)
<who> k
<Sweetcake> I sent a carbon of the reply that I got from VU about why we need to schedule chat time on www.zia.com
<Sweetcake> The only person allowed to actual email to schedule chat time is our group leader so I sent a message to Jeff about it, did we ever choose a co-leader?
<who> now it is nap time...everybody put your heads on your desks
<RiffRaff> can we have milk after? :)
<who> lemme lemme
karen snore, snark, snurf...
<Sweetcake> they said that they may get rid of the making a channel thing on ZIA so we have to schedule times if we want to use zia.
<Sweetcake> Do we have another leader? Who is Jeff's helper? They could forward the reguest for a scheduled chat times on the zia server.
<who> i'm Ailan or Tin or Agness...thats right I'm Agnes
who is now known as Agnes
Counselor [~Counselor@cs113-8.u.washington.edu] has joined #web-o-crats
karen sets mode: +o Counselor
<Agnes> i would be willen' if my time is available
<Sweetcake> hello Jeff, I was worried about you! Thought you may have caught the BUG from Riff or who!
<RiffRaff> so does this mean I cant do #4?
<Agnes> and if no one else wants it
<Counselor> Well, I caught a bug, alright...they call it Windows95!
<Agnes> anyway...i still need to understand how the server will be secure if we can log in from IRC
<Agnes> will we be passworded?
<Sweetcake> Riff Raff let who email you his ideas and combine it with yours and post it on the page!
RiffRaff needs to know if he can still do #4, since Steve is not Steve.
<Sweetcake> I guess it means that they will eventually make it so that you cannot create channels similar to the sprynet thing. And since it is only on one server and practically empty it will be a little more secure that others? It' can't really be secure though can it?
<Agnes> no
<Agnes> and no ops!
Sweetcake Yes Riff Raff can do #4, take who's ideas combined along with the chat logs and write it up and post it!
<RiffRaff> will do. :)
<Agnes> if that happens...and if we have no non-IRC members, i say back to the buff
<RiffRaff> just checking here. :)
<RiffRaff> I checked out ZIA today myself.
<Sweetcake> What happened to your windows95 Jeff?
<RiffRaff> no one was there for about an hour.
<Sweetcake> yes real empty over there.
<Counselor> I (up?)graded to Windows95 this weekend...it's *still* not up! I'm on the 386 today.
<Agnes> i have used it a bit ... have had the java applet lock up a couple of times tho
<Sweetcake> right now if you creat a channel on ZIA you get ops in the channel! You just do not get ops in the channels that they have set up permanetly.
<Counselor> If anyone knows how to get the dialer running in Windows95 email me.
<RiffRaff> makes more sense to just log into ZIA through an irc, that applet takes forever. :)
<Sweetcake> We were wondering where you were on Sunday night and why we have not heard from you in a few days.. we thought you may have come down with a bug!
<Sweetcake> Internet dialer?
<Agnes> no...VU was talking about stopping the new channels
<Counselor> Where's that?
<Agnes> Carol mentioned it here (i think Carol)
<Agnes> but it makes sense with the "secured server" memo they spoke of
<Sweetcake> Mine Internet dialer setup thing is under assessories then under internet tools.
<Agnes> and it runs true to form for V.U.
<Agnes> COUN: what were u running
<Sweetcake> VU cannot stop new channels but ZIA can.
<Counselor> I was running windows3.1
<Agnes> had no trouble upgrade...but that was a while ago...
<Agnes> and got new machine with W95 installed since then
<Agnes> C: Which log do we need from me?
<Sweetcake> make sure that under assessories that you also have a folder called dial up networking. If you do not reinstall the cd and when you run setup go through and check it to be installed. The default install of win95 leaves a lot of stuff out that you have to install by manually selecting if you want everything.
<Counselor> I just can't figure out how to configure my dialer...I need to set up multiple accounts and a cript. for ech.
<Counselor> a script for each acount, that is.
<Sweetcake> Feb 13 #web-o-crats log, the one that is currenly posted is only a partial log.
<Agnes> k...i'll look...i have'm all i think...gotta clean house anyway
<Sweetcake> with dialup networking installed you can set up different internet accounts and stuff. I have mine setup for 2 different servers, 1 for my regular internet access and set to use netscape and the second one if for my husband to log onto his free graphic account at the library and it is set up to use MIE.
<Counselor> I hope someone will post Sunday's and today's log...I'll need to catch up.
<Sweetcake> Sundays logs have already been posted!
<Sweetcake> I finally received my upgrade to Hot Dog 3.0 in the mail today! I have been having a lot of fun researching all the new features!
<Counselor> Ok..on both the logs and the dialup networking...I think I did select to have that installed.
<Sweetcake> and under assessories you should also have a folder thing for Internet setup or internet tools or something like that.
<Counselor> Ok, what do I chose from Internet setup?
<Sweetcake> Mine is Internet Tools, then Get on the internet. But I remmeber before I upgraded to MIE 3.o that it was something like Internet setup wizard or something like that.
<RiffRaff> since we're on this subject, how do i get dialup to remember my password?
<Sweetcake> You have to have the thing installed for networking on your computer, and then when the computer boots and asks for password just hit enter. let me check to see what the exact thing is. hold one sec.
<Sweetcake> Control Panel, then Network, then Client for Microsoft Networks has to be installed.
<RiffRaff> thanks sweetie. :)
<Sweetcake> If that does not work, I will have to ask my friend for a URL he has that explains it. Forgot the URL and can't find it in my bookmarks. It is a page that a guy does that helps people with win95 and has answers to a lot of questions and stuff and a lot of info.
<Sweetcake> That remember password thing bugged me for months!
Agnes is now known as who
<Sweetcake> Under the Network thing you can click to ADD Client for Microsoft Network I believe.
<Sweetcake> Jeff have you had time to read your mail? Our deadline for week 3 has been extended for 1 week!
<Counselor> Ok, hopefully, I'll get this beast under control!
<Counselor> No, I still need to catch up on my mail.
<Sweetcake> my brother-in-law also upgraded this weekend and had probems also! He called for long distance help! Hopefully he has not thrown his computer out the window yet!
<Counselor> Oh, I've been *very* tempted to do that!
<Sweetcake> We will not get a new assignment until Monday! So we have until Sunday night to finish up our homework 3 and whatever else we want to do to our site. We also have a little relaxation time!
<Counselor> It came at a good time for me... :)
<Sweetcake> brb... gotta get a soda!
<Counselor> I really didn't mean to bug-out on you guys...I just didn't anticipate all these problems.
<JerseyL> We had big problems when we upgraded also.
<Counselor> So, why the wekk delay?
<Sweetcake> Once you get the bugs worked out you will LOVE it!
<Counselor> week, that is.
<karen> several groups aren't finished yet
<Sweetcake> A lot of other groups did not get their work done and a few study groups broke down and stuff and a lot of people needed the extra time.
<Counselor> I sure hope so...right now, I think I'm sorry I did it.
<karen> It was a *huge* assignment
<JerseyL> I looked at some of the other groups' pages today and some hardly have anything done.
<RiffRaff> i think OUR page is the best I've seen so far. :)
<Counselor> Of course, ours is the best! And, yes, it *was* a huge assignment.
<JerseyL> Ours is pretty comprehensive.
<Sweetcake> I also thought the assignment was too large! Too much to do when the group dynamics were still being worked out. Look at how many leaders we wnet through and how many people quit! I think they should have made the assignment a lot easier and saved this big one for later!
<who> I noticed one group had an interesting approach behind the scenes...
<RiffRaff> yeah, and it's got a lot on it too. :)
<JerseyL> It seems like we are one of the larger groups. Lucky for us.
<who> the one that had three separate "mini-groups"
<who> one for design...one for content...and one for coding
<who> very "real-worldish"...almost corporate...bet Dogbert had something to do with it
<Sweetcake> that would only work if we were working on one project for the whole group instead of individual projects.
<RiffRaff> oh, now THAT was bright. :)
<Counselor> That's an interesting concept.
<RiffRaff> why seperate a group? :) i thought the whole idea of this class was to work AS A GROUP? :)
<who> It would insure consistency
<Sweetcake> It would not work in our case since our basic sight is only our hw assignments and it links out into individual project pages instead of just one.
<who> it would work up to the individual projects
<Sweetcake> Noone could decide on one topic except for "Beyond HTML" then we decided to each create our own project page for "Beyond HTML"
<who> anyway...i don't feel on very secure grounds since i've been away too much
<RiffRaff> me and you both, Steve.
<Counselor> Now, *i'm* the one behind. Did you get caught up, Who?
<who> BTW: I got a note from Robert H...apologizing and bowing out...i forwarded it to Jeff
<Sweetcake> If you look at other groups some are doing individual project pages like ours, but most setteled on one topic to creat one sight like for senior, children, a school, or something.
<who> not quite there yet...one of my sources pooped out
<Sweetcake> glad we finally heard from him, did not want to actually cut him from the group until he replied!
<who> i am working on an interactive color page to link to
<RiffRaff> ok, Steve, I'll look for your insights into #4 in my email soon, k?
<who> and working on the Challenge #5 page too
<Counselor> Ok, thatnks for forwarding that...we'll just drop him fromt hte roster.
<who> si'
<RiffRaff> mercy bow coop
<who> do i remember that we are all supposed to post demo pages? or something?
<Sweetcake> has everyone sent back their surveys?
<RiffRaff> oh ..shoot..the survey.
<RiffRaff> ummm...
RiffRaff raises a paw.
<who> i posted those who had ... uno momento... let me check
<RiffRaff> can i just answer the questions now? :)
<Sweetcake> The demo page for you will be the page with the info and/or links about challenge #5, you can either upload it and link it or just link it to you sight whatever you prefer.
<who> i kinda remember reading something slightly different...but not sure...
<who> i will do as you say (and blame you...teehee)
<RiffRaff> i need to fill out a survey yet.
<who> i would prefer email RIFF
<who> else i'd have to dig it out of the log
<who> BTW: send it directly to me scharney@usa.net
<Sweetcake> Who -- link your HW assignment to: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/9342/hwwk3.htm
<RiffRaff> i have the survey in my records, I'll fill that out and get that sent out. :)
<Sweetcake> you can upload it to the Geocities address and link it to this page, or leave it on your server and link it to this page.
<RiffRaff> scharney@thesea.com
<RiffRaff> scharney@thesea.com?
<who> both
<RiffRaff> i'll send it to usa.net. :)
<who> usa.net forwards it to thesea
<who> i'd prefer usa
<who> thanks
<who> here is the "A-list"
<who> Linda, Aleks, Jeff, Steve, Hawk, Patti, Carol, and Detlev
<who> any others???
<RiffRaff> working on it right now. :)
<who> maybe B-list...steerage
<who> whoa...had a fatal error...blew out my NS...but u r all still here?
<RiffRaff> im here....
<karen> me
<JerseyL> me
<who> k...musta just been local
<Sweetcake> So you have Linda, Sasha [Aleks], Jeff, Steve, Pattie, Carol, Karen [Detev], Robert G. [Hawk?]...
<RiffRaff> survey on its way. :)
<Sweetcake> Still missing Geetha? Paul's is on it's way ...
<RiffRaff> well, guess I'll sign off for tonite...I'm still not 100% yet, I'm afraid. :(

<who> how?
<JerseyL> Is our next meeting Friday and will we be back here?
<RiffRaff> powwow, or email me to meet you. :)
<who> u on PowWow, ICQ, CoolTalk?

<Sweetcake> I say so unless we hear other wise.
<Counselor> Friday is fine..here is fine too.
<RiffRaff> I was lucky, RiffRaff wasnt taken yet. :)
<who> k
<Sweetcake> Jeff what do you think of using www.zia.com for our study group meetings?
<who> i've found many who's
<RiffRaff> thanks Steve...g'nite everyone.. :)
<who> nite
<JerseyL> bye
RiffRaff waves a paw.
RiffRaff [cutter@p23-ts5.en.net] has quit IRC (Come on, Disney, call me!!)
who paws a wave
<Sweetcake> you will read about it in the mail. I do not see a point of changing unlesss we hear from Geetha that she will participate from the java chat applet tie in on our VU class sight.
<Counselor> Is it irc?
<Sweetcake> The message they sent said that we can use the chat server, but you have to forward an application to them to schedule chat channels and times and stuff.
<who> just for the experience?
<who> i say we protest that requirement...we are adults! usually
<Counselor> Ok, I'll look it over and get back via email.
<who> like you said thats not a ZIA req
<Sweetcake> You can access it also from IRC www.zia.com port:6667 VU has moved it's class IRC to the ZIA server starting this Sunday night so that those who cannot connect with a regular IRC client can connect through their java applet.
<Counselor> Speak for yourself, who.
Counselor smiles
<who> waaaaa
<who> mommmmmieeeee!!!!!
<Sweetcake> But the requirement may not really be theirs, but a requirement for the VU guests to use Zia's private chat server.
<who> Carol...you are so sweet
<JerseyL> I'm gonna go, see you Friday.
<who> c u JerseyL
<Counselor> Ok, obviousely I'm a bit behind here, so I'll look at the mail and get back via email.
<Sweetcake> I looked at ZIA page today and there is no refernece about creating channels, it only listed what channels were there. Don't know about creating channels even though it is set up now to allow it. The server used to be only JAVA bases and it seems that the IRC server part is a new addition.
JerseyL [roblin@morr01-nj-04.gti.net] has quit IRC (Leaving)
<who> i've got 260 msg in my Web0crats folder alone
<Counselor> bye jerseyl
<Sweetcake> your that far behind?

<who> only the last week or so NEEDS ACTION
<Sweetcake> he he.. I cleaned out my folder the other day.
<who> but thats alot anyway
<Sweetcake> At least there has not been as much mail in the last week!
<who> yeah...could that have anything to do with a Win95 upgrade?
<who> 1,8:)
<Counselor> heh
<who> BTW: Couns: did you look at the Sal post?
<Counselor> he what?
<Counselor> the waht?
<Sweetcake> Jeff did you see that you were mentioned in the mail from our teachers this week? It came out yesterday I think?
<who> Jean ? put out an email today mentioined your URL and one by Sal re: access
<Counselor> No, I've gotten to that either. :(
<Counselor> not, that is.
<who> thought you might be interested
<Counselor> not, that is.Cool!
<who> anyway...dinner is on the table
<Counselor> Yeah, I better go work on win95 myself. So, 'night all!
<Sweetcake> Also, to follow up the discussion that Jeff aka "Counselor" gave
<Sweetcake> during the class meeting last weekend. Class participant Sal has
<Sweetcake> put up her article on website accessibility for those who wish to
<Sweetcake> read it:
<Sweetcake> http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1214/access.html
<Sweetcake> And here is Jeff's URL covering the accessiblity topic if you did
<Sweetcake> not get it during class Sunday:
<Sweetcake> http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2122/webpage.html
<Sweetcake> The topic is one with which you should consider becoming familiar.
<who> nite Carol thanx for all
<who> Carol: 13Boy you type fast!!!
<Sweetcake> your welcome! goodnight all! When I post the log I can get rid of Robert H. from the line up and the mailto tag?
<Sweetcake> cut & paste works wonders!
<Counselor> Yeah, do that SC.
<who> i've got one minute before my wife hangs up my modem...around my neck i fear
