<Counselor> Yeah, Carol, but as usual, it doesn't work in lynx.... :)
<Counselor> But, that has nothing to do with your page...it's just not supported by lynx.
<JerseyL> I didn't really understand why the tables look different in NS and IE.
<JerseyL> I used commands that were supposed to be ok in both I thought.
LIGHTNING [java@sea-wa5-06.ix.netcom.com] has left #Web-O-Crats
<Sweetcake> It was easy actually and only took a few minutes, it is a built in feature of the new Hot Dog Pro 3.0, just checked a box to make it a push page and it added the code for me!
<JerseyL> I put samples that looked the same and some that looked different. It was a pain to do.
HUNK [java@node-56-143.sunline.net] has joined #Web-O-Crats
<Sweetcake> So Jeff when you go to the page you get stuck there?
<HUNK> CAN ANYONE HELP ME
<Counselor> Yes, essentially, Carol..I get a link to the new page, though...so all I have to do is select it.
<Counselor> Hunk, what do you need...we're having a study group meeting here.
<HUNK> HOW DO YOU THROW SOME ONE OUT OF A SESSION
<Sweetcake> I added that just in case some one got stuck, thought it was a good idea. I tried using the animated globe but the size of it was too large and one would have had to wait a long time for it to load before jumping to the next page.
<Counselor> I'll show you in a minute...
<Sweetcake> What kind of session?
<Sweetcake> We are having a private study group session here.
<Counselor> Actually, Carol, you didn't your link...lynx automatically puts the utl to the new link up.
<Counselor> You didn't need the link, that is...lynx puts the url up.
<HUNK> THANK YOU
<Sweetcake> hold on I will be right back, I could have sworn I put a link on the page click on in case someone gets stuck.
<Sweetcake> your welcome.
<Counselor> Carol, you *did*...I'm just saying it was not necessary...lynx does that for you. In other words, there were two links

<Sweetcake> Hunk, why do you want to know how to throw someone out of a session? If you are in a chat room and are the operator you can kick someone off the channel or ban them from it.
<Sweetcake> oh ok..

<JerseyL> hi
<Sweetcake> How's your homework coming along?
<JerseyL> Mine's up.
<Counselor> So, JerseyL, are you still having trouble with the tables?
<who> i was working on the page and forgot about the mtg
<JerseyL> I have trouble understanding why they end up looking the way they do.
<who> page is laid out but i must put the cgi in it now
<Counselor> Or, did you still have a question about why NS and IE are different?
<who> is there anything to look at?
<JerseyL> I did the width 100% on one of the tables and it fills up the entire width of the page in NS but doesn't look anywhere near the same in IE.
<Sweetcake> Yeah! I will have to take a look at t it later Linda.
<Counselor> I think, JerseyL, that it is just ath each browser displays things differently.
<JerseyL> It was weird and sort of drove me crazy.
<who> thats what the lesson is all about
<Sweetcake> Just like the table to align graphics drove me crazy.
<JerseyL> yeah
<Counselor> Yeah, I think that was the point of the lesson. And, it's the pint that one needs to be aware that what you see when you do a page is not necessarily what someone else will see when they view it.
<Counselor> It's an important point.
<who> and pint
<JerseyL> Jeff--what ever happened with your midi error problem?
<Counselor> I *knew* you'd catch that, who... :P

<Sweetcake> I did not post it but if I have the time I will try. I was working on my own this week and created my own page with a border and used tables to align the text. I even made the background and all the graphics on the page myself! It is my first attempt at graphics!
<who> COUN: I have a sound question...on my Dad's page and on some others, midi ends with a sustained note forever....what is that about?

<Sweetcake> brb gonna check buffnet again to make sure noone is there.
<Counselor> Who, what did you donwload? And, I've no idea why you should have the problem with the sustained notes. i guess I'd have to take a look at it.

<Sweetcake> am back.. noone was on buffnet.
<Sweetcake> small turnout tonight!
<who> imb
<Counselor> Yeah, Carol, I've done that too and will do it to the rest if I don't remove background sound altogether.
<Sweetcake> Has anyone heard fron Geetha during this 2 week HW period?
<Counselor> I have not heard from her.
<who> imba
<who> (i'm back again)
<Counselor> I was sorta hoping she'd show up now that we're using this server.
<Sweetcake> so let us all know when the form is up so we can check it out!
<who> saw a news release about a voice plug-in from Digital
<who> http://interface.digital.com/voice/download.htm
<Sweetcake> I sent a reminder out a few minutes ago so maybe she will show.
<who> so i downloaded it ... sposed to play right out of NS/NSG

<Counselor> What sort of sound atatchments?
<HUNK> WRONG PLACE
<who> here read this
<who> The DIGITAL Voice Plugin allows you to record and send audio email directly from a web page. The use of industry standard protocols ensures
<who> that most people can receive and play these messages with the software
<who> they already have.

<Counselor> That is interesting, who. Let me know how it works.
<who> i will...the URL i sent was the download page
<Counselor> I'll probably not install it until I hear more from you about it.
<who> supposedly recipient will get a message with a normal link on it
<who> if they are running NS/G then clicking will play a wave you recorded
<Counselor> Ah, now I'm beginning to understand...and what about those of us running offline mail readers?
<who> you send by clicking on a mike icon and using your mic....simple
<who> uno...washing machine calls
<Counselor> Will we be able to download the wav file to play offline?
<who> If you publish web pages, the DIGITAL Voice Plugin can be a great way to
<who> gather voice comments about your work!
<Sweetcake> Does anyone here use ICQ?
<who> they have code to put the recorder part on your pages
<who> Does anyone really use ICQ?
<who> Or does it use you?
<Sweetcake> I just installed it the other day.
<who> I have been having problems with ICQ recently
<Counselor> What is it?
<who> but yes i do and so does teach
<who> ICQ is PowWow or CoolTalk type s/w
<who> S: what is your call letters?
<Sweetcake> my pager number is 464491 email carol@unix.asb.com
<who> I've been having trouble keeping it connected
<Sweetcake> me to but it is connect right now or so it says, my flower is green at the moment.
<Counselor> WOW, a green flower... :)
<who> yup...i just got it up /no comments/
<who> its searching for you
<who> Connection lost...reconnect later
<Sweetcake> I am trying to send a message to the one ICQ person I know. I may be connected but I do not think it is working right. Still trying to send this short message for a long time now!
<Sweetcake> me too! my flower is red again... oh well thanks for trying.
<who> remember...we are beta
<Sweetcake> he he hope they work the bugs out, could be a handy little program once it works correctly.
<who> anyway...see our new member at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/9342/meetmemQ.html
<Counselor> So, does anyone here have any questions about their homework?
<who> worked gr8 until the last upgrade...thats progress
<who> Homework...yes...where do we stand? Conceding me my cgi-bin page!
<who> I have not been able to connect with RiffRaff yet...
<Counselor> Our new member?
<Sweetcake> mine is all done and posted! I did a page with and without tables to align text and graphics and then I also did a push page and it is posted. I also on my own created a background with a border and put text and stuff on the page but did not post it. I will if I find the time before clsss., but no problem as someone else already did that assignmnet but I wanted to give it a try.
<who> just look at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/9342/mulder2.jpg
<who> whats the direct URL S:? So i don't have to walk to get it.
<who> I do have one comment to make about the "Big Ball of Wax"....
<Sweetcake> WHO you sure do look nice in the picture! ;-)
<who> this is what our front page says -in part-
<who> We want to share our experiences on
<who> how we found a topic; how we found web sites; how to get your pages uploaded to your site; maintenance and upkeep of
<who> your web pages; and making your web site accessible to others with different browsers and different needs.
<who> I don't think we are doing that!
<Counselor> Ok, Ok...so y'all are gonna make me fire up Netscrape and look at this, huh?
<who> should we attempt...or rewrite the intro
<who> no C: is there another way?
<Sweetcake> I say edit the intro!
<who> there is that gol-durned song agin....i used to like it!!!!
<who> BTW: Have you considered moving the sounds to the top of the page so that it loads first?
<Sweetcake> our last lesson is coming up this week I think it will be about java scripting!
<Counselor> Yes, edit the intro and yes, there is another way...you can describe what you are talking about... :P
<who> yes...i do too...i think we have a decent theme and presentation
<who> Does the name Mulder mean anything to you?
<Counselor> And, yes, the sounds should be at the top, so the bontrol panel is there for someone to turn it off or adjust the volume.
<Counselor> I think something about x-files?
<Sweetcake> who do you have time to edit our main page to fix it up? I have to work long hours the next few days and will not be able to do it.
<Sweetcake> never watched the x-files before.
<Counselor> It's not one of my fav shows, either, but I hear that name in the TV newsgroup.
<Sweetcake> We also need to get rid of any references to bgsound if it is there also! We only need to use the embed tag.
<who> found some chess-cake of agent mulder...am using it as place holder on cgi page...thats all
<who> she is cuter than me...but only a little
<Sweetcake> chess cake?
<who> pint?
<who> combo cheese and chest....maybe Freudean
<Sweetcake> Freudian?
<Sweetcake> he he he!
<Counselor> Now, you have my attention...I'll have to go check it out before you take it down... :P
<Sweetcake> So who are you gonna edit up our main page and get it fixed up?
<Counselor> And, still get your hw done?
<Sweetcake> I think there is also still some unfinished HW from the last assignment, the Netscape RGB thing has not been posted yet! who's assignment was that?
<who> boy S: you got men on your mind!
<who> i mean all you talk about is males
who shuffles his feet uncomfortably
<Sweetcake> Who where is your HW from last assignment? You started the page but never pasted in the rest of it! :-)
<Counselor> It sounds like Who has a lot to do... :)
<who> yes..it will be there...i got side-tracked
<Sweetcake> So little time! Where did it all go! Maybe our group will win one of the awards! That would be nice!
<Sweetcake> Patti's sick tonight! I think she may have gotten that FLU bug!
<Counselor> They'll probably have an award for every entry...
<Counselor> Ok, I'll take a look at our main page and see what I can do about the intro and BG sound.
<Sweetcake> wonder where kko and kwhats are tonight, they are almost always here. I bet Lexa decided to sleep this one out!
<Counselor> who, you concentrate on your hw for last and this lesson.
<who> C: the main page is just a class work page...shouldn't spend too much time on it
<who> i'm more concerned with getting together with RiffRaff for the REAL front door
<Sweetcake> Thanks Jeff. Just reword it so it matches what we are doing or have done. We also need to get the links to everyones project page during this last weeks assignment so we can have them all posted.
<who> Has anyone been checking out the other groups?
<Sweetcake> Only a few even come close to ours, most have not even done half of what we have done.
<Sweetcake> a couple of groups though are very very good!
<who> only two groups /ours and info/ seem to be doing the class
<Counselor> I agree, who, I'd really like that "real" front door up and running..
<who> i haven't even had a chance to work on my "project"
<Sweetcake> What are Who and Riff Raff making a PUSH page for our site?
<who> but that i feel must be sub to group
<Counselor> Me neither, but I'll find a minute to work on the current front page.
<Counselor> No, they were going to design a "look" for our site.
<Sweetcake> As long as you at least get up a blank page with a construction sign on it and a paragraph of what you are going to work on will be enough. Then at least we can post the URL, The teachers said that they will need a couple of weeks after the last assignment to look over all the sights and that is when you may find the time to start working on it.
<Counselor> Frankly, I had hoped that we'd be "instructed" more in this class. It's difficult to find the time to teach oneself on top of everything else.
<who> Yes..i discussed this with G and VU...this class is more like independent study you get with grad school
<Counselor> I'd hoped to be taught about frames and image maps and such so all I'd have to do is discuss the accessibility aspects of those advanced features...oh, well...
<Sweetcake> I had fun teaching myself this week learning PSP, I do not think anyone expected the class to be the way it was. I was hoping to be taught something, not teach myself.
<who> which is fine...some people might have made other choices tho had they known before hand
<who> Can't imagine that we would have learned or been exposed to nearly as much material if it had been taught in the standard mode
<Counselor> Perhaps...but, still...it's been terrifically demanding and I've hardly had the time...
<who> yes...and you were drafted...not enlisted...lol
<Counselor> I feel that if I'd known more what to expect that perhaps I'd been able to get even more form this sort of "teaching" method.
<Sweetcake> I think the class should have been longer and each week one topic would have been discussed in detailed such as Image maps for example. By email teach everyone what an image map is and how to make one and links to various mapping programs and such and then have everyone make on. Too much material jammed into too short a time span. Then it makes everyone in the group try to grab to do what they know instead of trying something new.
<who> Think they are learning too
<Counselor> I almost think this would be better as a third level class.
<who> VU might appreciate this feedback ... presented this way in lieu of "your *(#$&* class....
<Counselor> I agree completely, Sweetcake.
<Sweetcake> I still think they should have only presented one topic each week and had everyone try to do it and the groups could help each other learn the one topic. And to on top of learning these new toipics also create a site that "makes a difference"?
<who> is Jersey here?
<Sweetcake> people sent them nasty mail?
<JerseyL> off and on
<who> hello
<Counselor> Are there "real" people at the VU? Perhaps we should send them our log.. :)
<JerseyL> I was just checking out the other groups' pages. Some are pretty good.
<who> yes...real people...
<Counselor> Well, it looks like I have quite a bit to do in the next couple of days...if we don't have anything else tonight, I thingk I will see what I can accomplish..
<Sweetcake> maybe the teachers should send out a survey to all members of the class after it is over and ask for feedback.
<Sweetcake> Sounds goo to me I have to get up early for work tomorrow.
<who> hold on one minute C:
<JerseyL> Good night!
<Counselor> Sure...
<Sweetcake> night Linda.
<Sweetcake> who are you logging?
<Counselor> Goodnight, JerseyL.
JerseyL [roblin@199.171.27.214] has quit IRC (Leaving)
<who> never mind...i sent myself one of those voice emails, but i haven't recieved it yet
<Sweetcake> Who if you are logging and you find the time can you post tonights log? If not I will post it on Monday when I post sun nights log. I have to work long hours on sat and sun and will not have the time to post this until on monday?
<who> yes logging...but missed beginning
<who> anything happen the first 15 mins
<Sweetcake> ok if you can post what you have tomorrow it will be great and when I post on monday I will upload my copy of this log. This way it will be there for those who want it earlier.
<who> btw: noticed the 3/2 log included 2/28 log...not that it matters...just when i downloaded it i was confused
<Sweetcake> not really at least I do not remember anything
<who> k
<Counselor> Ok, who, you can email me with more info on that program if you want..perhaps even send me a voice note... :)
<Sweetcake> probably forgot to delete the 228 log and it was appened. I do not have it set to overwrite logs just in case I forget to post or something.
<who> also, my icq is 295844
<Sweetcake> goodnight.
<who> nite
<Counselor> 'night all
<who> C: do you know
<who> where i might find a list of supported fonts?
<Counselor> know what?
<who> and where they are good?
<Sweetcake> ok I wrote it down, will add you to my ICQ hopefully I can get it to work sometime but my flower is still red! Night!
<who> i'm a greenie again
