Eve and Reilly's very first litter was born on April 2nd, 1998 while I was at school (as per usual!) That morning, I was pretty sure she'd have them that day, as I saw little wigglies in her tummy! Sure enough, when I came home, I discovered that Eve had had SEVEN! Now that sure surprised me, since my estimates were 5!!

      7 babies

The babies, which will be schimmel and champagne (all have black eyes BTW, no red eyed schimmels for me!), are named Debrah, Jessica, Clancy, Sullivan, Rebecca, Madison, and John. They're named after the cast of my favorite show . . yeah, Earth2 = ) There is only one champagne, a female named Madison ("Maddie"), there are 4 schimmel males, which are Clancy, Sullivan, Jesse (the runt) and John, and 2 schimmel females, that's Debrah and Rebecca (the other runt). Interested in adopting one? See my adoption page for more info, and email me.

      Adorable ones!

      The birth announcement

      Where are they now?

Becky is an energetic little "runt girl"--a schimmel with spunk. She arrived in New York at the home of Kate Potter on June 3rd, 1998. She's living with a female friend, a black named Cloud. Becky's new name is Hope, and she will be registered with the GCM as TDC's Rebecca Reilly. Read more about both girls on their page
Clancy is living with Kelly in New Jersey. His new name is "BJ" and his mate is an ivory cream. Her name, however, is being argued over = )
Debrah is now living with Sabrina in Wilmington, DE (where I am) with her sister, under the name "Ginger".
Jesse is also living with Kelly in NJ. His new name is Rupert, but Kelly's daughter calls him "Wupert" = ) His mate is probably going to be an e(f) carrier. We'll see how things pan out.
Maddie, a champagne, went to Sabrina also and is now renamed "Sugar".
Sullivan, schimmel boy, is living with Cassie in PA. Kelly M. dropped him off for me (as she happens to know her). Cassie is also interested in champagne so maybe one day I'll get to meet her? She's not too far from me.
Johnny was a schimmel boy who went to live with Mia Soderquist of DE, with his mate Mary. Sadly, perhaps a month after they went to their new home, it caught fire and they both died of smoke inhalation = (

      News

5/11/98 - This is the breakdown - John is going with Mary from Lautrera Litter 5 with Mia in Dover, DE, Madison is probably going to live with Debrah with Sabrina (have to talk to her about it), Becky is going to Kate. That leaves 3 little schimmel boys that need home. So email me if you're interested.

5/3/98 - Well, 2 of the babies have homes I think = ) 1 (Becky, the runt) will be going to NY with Kate to live with another female. The other, Madison, the champagne, will be going to live with Sabrina most likely, along with Mary. Sabrina adopted 2 males from Missy's first litter and they're still alive and well. There are still 4 schimmel boys and 1 schimmel girl left.

4/29/98 - Cleaned out the tank today, and let everybody play in the box = ) At first they all hid in the ball I carried them over in, but slowly they began to step out. Such cautious little babies! What's happened to that inquisitive gerbil spirit?? = )

4/23/98 - Well, all the eyes are opened! They're all running around the tank like crazy, so cute! They're 3 weeks old now, so in another 2 1/2-3 weeks they'll have to go = ( If you're interested in any of them, just email me and let me know. Eve's starting to get a little chubby already, so maybe she'll have another litter in about 10 days! (!) If she does, the pups will remain with their parents (unless they become hostile) so they'll also be parent-trained, which is an excellent advantage if you want to breed.

4/20/98 - One of the schimmel boys has opened his eyes! The others, however, are slow pokes = )

4/19/98 - Their eyes aren't open yet, even though they should be! Oh well I guess they're "slow". Any day now, though!

4/17/98 - The runts are a schimmel female and a schimmel male, I forgot to say.

4/13/98 - They're all crawling around the tank hyperactively = ) Their eyes should open in 6 more days, next Sunday.

4/11/98 - There is 1 champagne female, 3 schimmel males, 1 schimmel female, and 2 schimmel runts that I am *still* not sure of. I think the champagne will be Madison, the schimmel males are Sullivan, Clancy, and John, the schimmel female is Debrah, and the runts are Jessica and Rebecca. I may rearrange that though = )

4/9/98 - Well I definitely have 4 schimmel and 1 champagne but the other 2 are up for grabs. Both runts (yeah there are two) are pink as ever.

4/8/98 - In about 2 days I'll certainly be able to tell the colors and genders. Just now they're getting a bit fuzzy. Some appear to be "grayish" and others a little more pinkish/whitish. I think the "grayish" ones are schimmels and the others are champagnes. No clue on the count, though.

4/7/98 - There are definitely 7 still there, wahoo! The color is coming in just a little. I picked up one and there was a patch of white on the back of its head, but I still didn't want to bother them all enough to find out what *all* of them. Probably by tomorrow I'll be able to tell = )

4/6/98 - There's at least 1 runt, possibly 2, but it's hard to count with so many! I *think* all 7 are still there but Eve has them pretty well buried and I felt I was being mean when I tried poking through it. Here is a picture of little "runty" in comparison to one of his chubby sibs:

4/5/98 - Still have all of them! Now they're getting their black points. If you've seen pics of Eve & Reilly then you realize that champagnes and schimmels (as well as Dark Eyed Honies and nutmegs) have black skin on their ears, nose, paws, hind feet, and tails. Well so do the babies! They look like little pink champagnes, and their little black noses are soooo precious = )

4/3/98 - All 7 are still alive! There are a few runts, though, but I hope they'll catch up. Reilly is a great daddy, and Eve's a great mom!

Help keep a baby out of a pet store!

As a rule, I don't give my babies to pet stores. But the only way I can keep doing that is if kind, caring, people like you want to take them. So, if you're interested in adopting one, do not hesitate to let me know! I can ship, too. But keep in mind that adoption is subject to my descretion, and availability depends on whether or not the babies are already spoken for, and that I have the right to turn anyone down for whatever reasons I see as valid. However, I am not unreasonable. See my adoption page for more information.
