Eve and Reilly's 4th litter was quite a surprise! The day before I noticed she was a little pudgy, but I didn't think she'd have them for another week or so, because she wasn't too big. But the next morning, after getting home from an overnight stay at my friend Liza's, I found 2 squirmie little babies! However, Eve doesn't seem to be her normal attentive self this time and I don't know if these two will make it or not = ( Only time will tell!

9/28/98 Yesterday I fostered the 2 of them to Adair. I think something must have just been wrong with them, because Eve is a great mom (never lost a pup) and should have fed them, and Adair is too and she kept kicking them out of the nest. (well she'd let them stay for a little, then an hour or two later they'd be in the other end of the tank, forgotten). In any case, the two babies were dead this morning = ( I had a feeling that was going to happen, ever since I first saw them. Just part of my "great" luck with gerbil pups = (
9/27/98 Hmmm Eve isn't being her normal attentive self. Neither baby has any food in its tummy, and she and Reilly are curled up in the opposite corner = ( But a few minutes ago I saw Reilly cleaning them, maybe they're just too relaxed since it's been 4 weeks since they had pups around, and it'll take them a little bit to get back into the swing of things. I can only hope!
