Bear's Paw Baby Quilt
*Please note: all measurements include 1/4" seam allowances.
- Start by making a 12" Bear's Paw block.
 
 
- Cut two strips 4 1/2" x 12 1/2"; sew to opposite sides of the Bear's Paw block.
 
 
- Cut two strips 4 1/2" x 20 1/2"; sew to the two remaining sides of the Bear's Paw block.
 
 
- Cut two strips 4 1/2" x 42" from medium Color 1 and from medium Color 2; cut four strips 4 1/2" x 42" from light. Stitch each of the medium Color 1 and Color 2 strips to a light strip. Press seams towards the darker color. Cut the strips into 4 1/2" pieces: 12 of Color 1/light and 16 of Color 2/light. 
 (OR cut 56 squares 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"; stitch to the center square according to the illustration.)
 
 
- Stitch the 12 Color 1/light and 16 Color 2/light pieces to the center square according to the illustration.
 
 
- Cut four strips 2 1/2" x 42" for borders. Measure through the center of the quilt; cut two strips this measurement. Stitch to two opposite sides. Again, measure through the center of the quilt; cut two strips this measurement. Stitch to two remaining sides.
 
 
- Lay quilt top onto backing; pin and cut backing the same size as top. Stitch in a 1/4" seam, leaving an 8" opening to turn.
 
 
- Lay stitched quilt on batting; pin and cut batting. Stitch on the same line of stitching. Trim corners, turn right side out. Hand stitch opening closed. Tie through all layers at 4" intervals.
 
 
- Admire your lovely quilt!
