So you want a webpage at GeoCities but you haven't gotten started yet? You've come to the right place. First thing you need to do is join. To set up a profile and pick out your address in a GeoCities neighborhood, you must go to the join page. The URL for this site is http://www.oocities.org/join/freehp.html There are step by step instructions on this page for getting your FREE home page. Now that you've accomplished that, lets go on to getting things on your page that you want there. Let's start with the basic editor. You first need to go log in at your file manager. The address to do this is http://www.oocities.org/cgi-bin/homestead/file_manager Just type in your member name and password and BINGO, you're in. The page that comes up next is your file directory. You can do lots of things from this page but the first thing I would suggest is changing your password to something you can remember. To do this, scroll down until you see a button that says "profile editor" and click on it. This is all of your GeoCities information. Change your password and then submit. Now, on to the basic editor. Back at your file manager, you will see a list of files. Actually, if you are only starting out, you will only see one file, index.html, you will need to check the box beside it and then scroll down to drop menu and choose basic editor and click the edit button. This is a form type editor and once you have gotten into this editor, you simply fill out the form. You can choose your background and text colors here and even add links and some images. The basic editor is good for getting something started but the things you can do are limited. For more interesting things, you will want to move up to the advanced editor. For this, you'll need to know some html tags. You can go back to the 10 easy steps to making a home page and get the basics. Click your back button to go back to the help page. |
