WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office serves the Reno/Sparks area and also Gerlach, which is a long way north, all the way to the Oregon border. There are a lot of patches on this page, so be patient as it loads.

This is the oldest patch, and is the third patch the agency used. There is one really old one circa 1941. I have been able to locate for this agency. There are two other stock eagles that are old which follow, one for Search and Rescue, and the other for Mounted Posse.
There were a number of years that the uniforms did not have a patch. Notice that the first two patches above say DEPT., as do the three patches below. That patch design seems to be the forerunner of many of the following patches.
These DEPT patches(above) were worn from about 1970 until 1983 or so. These are variations from different manufacturers and all have the silver circle. To the left is the new OFFICE patches. There are many variations of this patch as well. This patch was worn from 1983 until the present. To the right is the current style SWAT patch.
These next three patches are examples of the first, second and SWAT badge patches.
LEFT - This was the first "HASTY" team patch. This patch is orange because the Hasty Team wore orange jumpsuits for safety purposes. These orange jumpsuits were used for Auto Extrications. The other example I have is to the right. There is a new Hasty team patch, which I understand is black. Thank you to Tim O'Shea for the information.
The next five patches are examples of special functions, such as Dispatcher. The Desk Clerk patch is no longer in use, and was replaced by the Support Specialist.
I certainly don't know if it was done on purpose, but did you know that the Sheriff's Office and jail is located at 911 Parr Blvd.?
There are two of these bomb patches, and I only have the one. This is the larger of the two. I don't know the significance of the size difference. The two are exactly the same, except for the size To the far left is the current style badge patch.
This is the left and right sleeve of the newly designed patch that was turned down by the patrol staff. Now all the black jumpsuits use this patch as well as the honor guard, which wears a black uniform. There is also a command staff dress uniform in black, and these patches are worn on those. There are a few other specialty units that wear the new patch, such as the RAVEN air unit, the gang unit, and anyone else that wears a black BDU.
