TO: James Johnson, Moore Co, Carthage PO

State of Tennesse Putnam County the January 30th 1845
Dear brothers and Mother and sisters I again take my
pen in hand to write to you to in form you that We are all
well at presant Hoping these few lines Will find
you all injoying the same blessing When they come to hand
I recived your letter but I have neglected to write
to you on the acount of John sears saying he Would
rite and then said he would go to that country
last Winter and has neglected both I was glad
to hear from you that were living I will inform you
that I have bought about thre hundred acrs of
land and has paid for it and is now living on it
there was a cabin on it and a stable and smoke
house and I give one hundred Dollars in trade
for it there is about five acrs cleard and will
bring from 25 bushels to thirty five if well tended
I dont think I ever should ownd as good a piece
of land had I haid in the Country land is very
cheap hear now I can get land for ten cents per acr
that is baron and every thing is very cheap here
now pork is worth two Dollars per hundred corn
is worth seventy five cents per barel wheat is wor
th fifty cents per bushel salt is worth seventy
five cents per bushel coffee is worth ten cents per
pound shooger is the same iron is five cents cows
and calfs is worth five Dollars in mony or ten in
trade horses and hogs is worth abut half as much
as they was when I come to this country I give ?
of ? and a good filly three year old and ten
dollars in worke for my land I have one horse yet
and a good start of hogs and sheep and cattel and
I raisd corn enough last year and to spare this
year I have nothing of iny importance to write to
you for times is hard and monny scarse
there is none of us dead and few maried old unkle
george is maried and his wife leaves him when she
pleases Elisabeth gillmore is maried to one John Smith

I have not heard from my father and John sence you
rote to me and I wrote to them and sent word by
people that were pasing but they wont write
we have had a very favorable winter and
a great ? this year and hogs is fat I have
kiled my pork and has got about twenty
hogs that is large and fat anough to kill yet
John W carlton is living in about one mile
of me and Wiley fry is living in about a half
mile of me and his wife has fore children
he is living at the place uncle Jessy first setled
I must inform you I have seen our president poke and
heard him Make a speech on his political principle
and I like him very well so clear the track for poke and all

John sears has bought him one hundred acrs
land and is living on it about five Miles from
me and I have not seen him in several days but
I told him I Was going to write a letter but he has
Not come his wife had a daughter last fall and
they Call it name Sarah elisabeth I want to
hear from you all very bad in that country and
I have bin looking for my Mother in law to Write
or some of them but I received no letter from
iny of them yet I want Mother in law to come
to this country I think she could doo beter here
then there if she would be satisfyed for this
is a greateal healthier country then that I
want her to write to me and let me now whethr
she will come or not brother harvill
I want you and brother James to Write
to me as soon as you can and let me know
how you are all doing in that country I
Must inform you that we have had but one
child sence we have bin here and we call
her name Margaret ann and she is brety as iny
of the tennesse girls David and John is got
large enough to help me work and I have
sent them to scool and they can spell and read
well and Write some I want to hear from
Daniel Campbell and Margaret and know
whether they are living at the same place

am hevier now then I ever was in my life
and Elisabeth is a greateal heavier and
fater then me we both found the church
last fall and we hope that all of hour
friends will prepare to meet us wher parting is no more
