Alright, again, please bear with me as I re-do some things around here. Right now I'm just sort of throwing things together. I'll come back as soon as I can to clean it all up.

Why homebirth? Why NOT!?! I feel I must first argue against the "you're so brave" comments I get when people first learn that we homebirth. I, by no means, am "brave" because I birth my children at home. I feel quite the contrary, YOU, hospital birthers, are the "brave" ones. To entrust yourself and your unborn child to a medical doctor? A person who has been trained to treat a pregnancy as an illness and labor and birth as something as serious as a major surgery?? I can only think that YOU are the "brave" or stupid ones. Sorry, I'm sure that'll stir some of you up. Far too many women blindly trust in their doctors. I'm not totally bashing doctors here. I believe they CAN do good on ocassion. But far too often, in the case of pregnancy and birth, they cause more harm than good. They can't accept birth as a natural process. They insist on intervening and speeding things along for their convenience. Every little intervention has an affect on mother and baby. This can quickly 'snowball' and you end up with an emergency on hand. I say homebirth is THE only choice for us and that EVERYONE should look into this option. As, it IS an option. We don't HAVE to have our babies in hospitals, how many of you were aware of there being other options? I wasn't aware during my first pregnancy. We had planned on having him at a hospital because, well, that's just what you did. We didn't know anything else. We just knew we wanted it NATURAL. That they better not try poking me with needles or messing with me!! Then, I was enlightened to the option of homebirth! Oh my goodness...perfect! Thank you thank you thank you! It just seemed so logical, geesh! So, in my 7th month of pregnancy, we decided we would birth at home. Haven't looked back since!

What about the pain? At home you can't have any drugs for the pain! Yeah, I know, that's the whole idea. Drugs aren't needed and if you're in a hospital, they're going to be pushed, regardless!! I know, you're there saying "but I have a birth plan that says I want a natural, drug free birth" Well, good luck with everyone abiding by that. That'll probably last until your first moan or complaint, from then on..."need something for the pain?" "want something yet?" "we can get you something for that pain now" etc. etc. How can a woman stick to her guns with that kind of pressure during a time when the last thing she needs in her life is PRESSURE!?! What she needs then is positive encouragement. Yeah, giving birth hurts, no doubt about that. But it CAN be done without drugs. AND..the size of the kid does not matter! Ugh! Another one that really gets me..."oh she needed the epidural, that baby was just 'too' big" Whatever! I've known women who've given birth to 9+ pound babies naturally and at home AND without a tear AND they were at least as small as me. So, that argument simply doesn't fly with me. Everybody CAN give birth without drugs if they simply set their minds to it, don't accept that there are any other options. You must be committed and focused.

Ok kind of got off on a tangent there but anyway. Homebirth IS an option and what a wonderful option it is. In the safety and comfort of your own home where your baby likely was conceived (unless you're like me and move so often your kids are never conceived and born in the same house LOL) What could be more special than birthing in that same room. And speaking of room..that can be ANY room you choose, heck, you could have your kid on the kitchen floor if you so desire. You can get up and move about as you choose, you can eat and drink as you choose. You don't have to be tied up to a machine and/or constantly monitored and checked for progress. There's simply no need for all of that stuff.

Please, if you're pregnant, consider homebirth. Educate yourself about homebirth as well as the 'routines' of a hospital birth. It kills me to know so many people don't even know they can birth at home and again, how many DO know, but don't care. How many people blindly go to a hospital because "that's just what you do"
