The Tribune of Green Forest, Kansas, May 8, brings to our desk information regarding the death
of one of its prominent and influential citizens, Andrew L. Kinney, nephew of Mrs. Jean Lambie
Price of Camden, who was born in Hillsboro. Mr. Kinney had acquired wealth in mine investments
and attained great fame as a criminal trial lawyer. His last visit to Camden was 23 years ago.
His death was due to Bright's disease and shock. Mr. Kinney leaves several cousins in this
vicinity. The Green Forest Tribune says:
"Andrew L. Kinney, former citizen of Green Forest and widely known attorney and republican
leader in Northwest Arkansas, died at his home in Harrison, Sunday. He was 65 years, 10
months and 28 days old.
"Mr. Kinney was born in Camden, N.Y., June 6, 1865. He was the son of Harvey Kinney and
Charlotte Lambie Kinney. When 12 years of age, he moved with his parents from New York to
a farm near Coldwater, Michigan. He attended college at Valparaiso, Indiana, studied law
and began practicing at Quincy Mich.
"In 1891 he married Clara B. Wolcott. To this union no children were born, but a home was
given to Harvey Bay, now of Green Forest; Marjorie Mantz, of New York City; Goldie Proctor
and Master Billy Bay now in the home at Harrison.
"Mr. and Mrs. Kinney moved from Reading, Mich., to Green Forest in 1910 and resided here
17 years. During their residence here Mr. Kinney engaged in the practice of law. He was
mayor of Green Forest several terms, and was actively interested in politics, being at one
time the Republican nominee for governor of Arkansas.
"During the tornado here in 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Kinney's home was destroyed and they moved to
their farm south of town, where they lived for a few months. From there they moved to
Harrison, where Mr. Kinney became Referee in Bankruptcy. On account of failing health he
resigned this office April 10. Since then he was confined to his home most of the time
until Thursday of last week when he was stricken with paralysis, remaining unconscious until
death.
"Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Clara B. Kinney, one brother, Will J. Kinney of Green
Forest, three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Hamilton and Mrs. Edith Wolcott both of Coldwater, Mich.,
and Mrs. Belva Jones of Green Forest, and several nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Green Forest Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. A. Reynolds, pastor of the Harrison Methodist church. Burial
was in the Pickens cemetery here."
