Charlotte Lynn Philipp, 51, of 308 W. Oak St., retired director of the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Civic Center, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1985, at home after a long illness.
Born in Rome on Feb. 27, 1934, she was the daughter of F. Lynn and Edna A. Herrmann Eggan. She married Hugh E. Philipp on June 29, 1957 in Rome. He died on Oct. 11, 1976.
A graduated of the former Academy of Holy Names in Rome, Mrs. Philipp received her bachelor's degree in biology from Western Maryland University. A former substitute teacher for the Rome and Oriskany school districts, she had worked toward her master's degree in science education at Syracuse University.
Upon retiring from the Dorfman Center directorship early this year, she was honored at a testimonial dinner in April. She had been affiliated with the Dorfman Center since 1975, serving as acting director from November 1981 until she was named director in January 1983.
Mrs. Philipp was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was its treasurer for 13 years and former church secretary, deacon and Circle president.
She served in Rome Area United Way budget committees and was a member of the Griffiss Ski Club, board of Directors of the Lake Delta Yacht Club. America Association of University Women, Rome Garden Club and Ming Twig of the Rome Twigs.
She was a former member of the Rome Transit Commission, and Rome Senior Citizens Council, and had been active many years in the Foothills Girl Scout Council.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George N. (Sharon) Whalen, Brighton, Mass. and Mrs. Vincent (Catherine) DiCastro, Rome.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Strong and Burns Funeral Home Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church memorial fund.
