Prominent Woman of Community Dies

Mrs. Daniel G. Dorrance, Jr., one of the best known residents of this village passed into rest on
Sunday night, March 16, at about 8 o'clock at her home on Church street. Mrs. Dorrance had been
suffering from heart trouble, for several years, and her death was caused by an acute heart attack.
She had been confined to her bed for only a week preceeding her death.

Ellen Lambie was born in Camden, October 23, 1851, the daughter of John and Jean Richmond Lambie,
natives of Ayrshire, Scotland. her life until her marriage was spent on the Lambie farm on the
Wolcott Hill road. She was educated in the Camden Union School and was for several years a
successful teacher in the same institution. On October 4, 1876 she was married to Daniel G.
Dorrance, Jr., who survives her. In October 1926 Mr and Mrs. Dorrance celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary. Besides her husband Mrs. Dorrance leaves to mourn her death, two daughters,
Ella and Elizabeth Dorrance of this village and two sons, James G. of Camden and Dr. Harold S.
Dorrance of Rochester; a brother, W. W. Lambie of Bellmore, Long Island, and several nephews
and nieces.

Mrs. Dorrance was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian church in whose welfare she was
always interested and she was very active in the Woman's Missionary Society of that church.
She belonged to the Historical Club, being a charter member, and to the Camden Library
Association, which she helped to establish and of which she was secretary as long as she was
able to continue as an active member.

Perhaps no woman in the community had a wider acquaintance than did Mr. Dorrance through her
long years of residence and her activity in the various groups with which she was associated.
Of sterling character she always stood for the best in everything. She was capable, friendly
and kindly, interested in all the affairs of this community and will be lovingly remembered by
those who have enjoyed her friendship.

The funeral, which was held 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at her late home, was largely
attended. The profusion of flowers was expressive of the esteem of her many friends who loved
her and regret her death. The Rev. F. E. Miller of the Prebyterian Church, officiated.
Bearers were Charles C. Wetmore, Charles H. Harden, Dexter Hubbard, Clarence E. Young, Howard
Churchill, Edmond T. Maloney. Interment in Forest Park Cemetery.

Those from out of town called here by her death were Dr. and Mrs. Harold S. Dorrance, Rochester;
Mr. and Mrs. Dorrance Davies, Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Dorrance, Mr. George Dorrance,
Utica; W. W. Lambie, Bellmore, L. I.
