Dr. Richardson is Dead After Brief Illness

Dr. Herbert E. Richardson 70, for 44 years a practicing physician at East Syracuse and former president
of that village is dead. He succumbed late yesterday afternoon at the hospital of the Good Shepard.
Born in Sandy Creek on Feb. 3, 1855, he came to East Syracuse in 1881 shortly after graduation from
Vermont Medical College. The village had just started at the time with the establishment of the New York
Central Railroad yards there. He was village president for four years, a member of village board of
education for 17 years and at the time of his death he was the school physician and health officer. He
was the first candidate initiated in Onondaga Lodge 802F. & AM after its organization. He was secretrary
of the lodge for 12 years. Dr. Richardson was also affiliated with Manlius Chapter 72 RAM and was patron
of Onondaga Chapter 144 Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by two sons, Harry Richardson of Eastwood and Lee Richardson of New York, a daughter Miss
Eleanor Richardson, East Syracuse, and two brothers DeLoss, Middletown and Fred Richardson of Fairport.
Funeral will be Sunday afternoon in the family home 141 West Manlius St., East Syracuse. Burial will be
at Collamer.
