John L. Wilcox Had Active Life

Native Camdenite was Pioneer Harness Maker and
Real Estate Man of Green Bay, Wis.

The Grean Bay ( Wis.) Press-Gazette brings us this report of John L. Wilcox, whose passing we
briefly mentioned last week.

"John L. Wilcox, early resident of Green Bay and pioneer harness-maker passed away this morning
at his home, 114 S. Ashland Ave., after a lingering illness. He was born in Camden, N.Y., in
1854 and came to DePere in 1872. In 1877 he was married at Green Bay to Miss Alma E. Annas. A
year after the marriage Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox spent three years in the East, returning to Green Bay
in 1881, when Mr. Wilcox established a harness shop. In 1886 he also entered the real estate
business, which he continued up to the time of his death. He retired from the harness business
on the fortieth anniversary of its foundation.

"During his career Mr. Wilcox was interested in public affairs, served several terms as aiderman
under the former system of city government and was a member of the school board. In the affairs
of the Westside, he was particularly interested.

"Mr. Wilcox is survived by his widow, two daughters, Blossom Jean and Florence, one brother,
C. G. Wilcox of DePere and one sister, Lillian R. Foster of Green Bay.

"Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the residence with the Rev. Edwin
Easty of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery,
DePere."
