Next to Last Survivor of James Lambie Family, Early Settlers of Preston Hill.
Another descendant of the early settlers of Preston Hill, Victoria Elvira Lambie, wife of Charles
S. Taylor, died at her home in Hillsboro, Friday evening at 6:45 o'clock. Thus the town has lost
one more of its noble, good women. Death was due to paralytic shocks, the first six weeks before
the end and another attack some four weeks ago.
Victoria Elvira Lambie was one of the eight children born to James and Lucinda (Brace) Lambie.
She was born in Hillsboro December 2, 1859 and had lived in the same neighbor hood practically
all of her life. She attended the Hillsboro and Camden schools and followed the vocation of
school teacher before her marriage with Mr. Taylor. Their wedding took place December 2, 1880,
on her 21 birthday, the late Rev. E. N. Manley performing the ceremony.
In early life Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this village, but in
1890 united with the Hillsboro Baptist church.
Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss three children, Mrs. F. Jones, Mrs. Lester
Larrison and Luther M. Taylor all of this town, and a granddaughter Ruth M. Taylor, who has made
her home with her grandparents fore many years. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Jean Price of
this village, the last of the Lambie family.
The funeral was largely attended on Monday 1 o'clock at the home and 2 o'clock in the Baptist
church. The Rev. F. E. Miller of Camden officiated. Interment was made in Hillsboro cemetery,
the bearers bein Jas. H. Durgee, Herbert B. Charbonneau, Bert Allen and William Marsh.
