Reflections on Anonymity

From the Twelve and Twelve



1. We need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films.

2. Anonymity to this extent is actually the pratice of genuine humility.

3. Even within the Fellowship every member's name and story needs to be confidential if the member so wishes it.

4. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion.

5. As a Fellowship, we wish to publicize our principles and our work but not individul members.

6. To us the Tradition of anonymity is far more than a sound public relations policy. It is more a denial of self-seeking.

7. This Tradition of anonymity is a constant and pratical reminder that personal ambition has no place in A.A./ Al-Anon

8. The spiritual substance of anonymity is sacrifice.

9. Moved by the spirit of anonymity, we try to give up our natural desires for personal distinction both among fellow alcoholics/Al-Anon and before the general public.

10. We are sure that humility, expressed by anonymity is the greatest safeguard that Alcoholics Anonymous can ever have
