Now I lay me down to sleep,
from the nightstand, buttons beep.
PC all set to download a file
and send the mail in a little while.
Then gather the news before the dawn
and all the scores from fans long gone.
The AC is set to cut back on cool;
Lights to blink, the burglars to fool.
Alarm clock set on delayed shutoff;
CD to play some, then cutoff.
Sleep-maker set on medium tension,
Voice mail set on no-wake suspension.
Burglar alarm on delay activate;
Carport lite on, for son who's late.
Mr. Coffee all set to percolate;
Dishwasher to run at ten of eight.
Air purifier cleans each hour tonite;
Water filter to fill the tank just right.
VCR to tape three good shows,
Something to watch during winter snows.
Motion detectors on, to check what moves;
White noise machine set to seaside soothes.
Camcorder is ready to film in a flash
Blender's all set, the fruit to mash.
Lord, Bless our all-electric domain;
Keep lightning away if it should rain.
Let no errant shock reset it all;
Watch over the breaker box in the hall.
I'm wide awake now from all this hassle;
God bless our multi-megawatt castle.

Computer Blessings

Every evening
As I'm laying here in bed
This little prayer keeps running
Through my mortal head
God bless my mom and dad
And bless my little child
And take care of my spouse
When things start gettin wild....
And God there's one more thing
I wish that you could do
Hope you don't mind me asking
But PLEASE bless my computer too???
Now I know that it's not normal
To bless a mother board
But listen just a second
While I explain to you, my Lord
You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends.
Inside those small components
Rest a hundred of my 'BEST FRIENDS'
Some it's true I've never seen
And most I've never met
We've never shaken hands
Or shared a meal as yet...
I know for sure they like me
By the kindnesses that they give
And this little scrap of metal
Is how I travel to where they live.
By faith is how I know them
Much the same as I know you.
I share in what life brings them
From that our friendship grew.
PLEASE take an extra minute
From your duties up above...
To bless this hunk of metal
That's filled with so much love.
The Lord is my programmer,
I shall not crash.
He installed His software on the hard disk of my heart;
all of His commands are user-friendly.
His directory guides me to the right choices
for His names sake
Even though I scroll through the problems of life,
I will fear no bugs, for he is my backup.
His password protects me.
He prepares a menu before me in the presence of my enemies.
His help is only a keystroke away.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
and my file will be merged with His and saved forever./
Grandma's Connected
In the not too distant past
-I remember very well-
Grandma's tended to their knitting,
and their cookies were just swell.
They were always at the ready,
when you needed some advice.
And their sewing (I can tell you)
Was available -and nice.
Well, Grandma's not deserted you.
She dearly loves you still.
You just won't find her cooking,
but she's right there at the till.
She thinks about you daily
you haven't been forsook.
Your photos are quite handy,
in her Pentium notebook.
She scans your art work now though,
and combines it with cool sounds,
to make electronic greetings.
She prints pictures by the pounds.
She's right there when you need her,
You really aren't alone.
She's out now with her "puter" pals,
but she took her new cell phone.
You can also leave a message
on her answering machine;
or page her at the fun meet.
She's been there since nine fifteen.
Yes, the world's a very different place,
there is no doubt of that.
So"E" her from her web page,
or join her in a chat.
She's joined the electronic age,
and it really seems to suit her.
So don't expect the same old gal,
cause Grandma's gone "Computer."
